Just kidding about the used kitty litter. Who was it anyway... Ren & Stimpy that had an episode about edible kitty litter??? Ah... but I digress. As is the usual habit of the ole Fishback gang, things are winding down as we approach the holiday season. That doesn't mean we don't have things happening, just a lot less urgency at this time of year. We are still looking for future live venues. There was a short discussion this week, (during the "Boy's Night Out", as Phyl was ill on Wednesday,) about the possibilities of playing on the Illinois side of the border. I am all in favor of playing wherever we can get some warm bodies together that enjoy live music. Basically, we just need to keep travel time and expenses in check, as I seriously doubt that any of us want to make a major road tour. Especially for a weekend or one-nighter gig. Several place names were brought up that I won't list here, as we haven't even begun to contact anybody yet. Still, it proved to be a useful discussion. We aren't writing off playing in Indiana, but it seems that the Terre Haute area is either locked up by existing bands, or that they just aren't interested in live music with real musicians. In any case, we need to be looking for places to be heard and seen and to Hell with the "unavailable gigs". We should concentrate our time and energies on real opportunities, however small or insignifigant they may seem. Rehearsal was more of a jam session this week, as we took a lot of liberties with a lot of songs we barely remembered. This is always a fun excercise and it helps keep our chops sharp. It also opens up each of us, individually, to the chances of playing a song we hadn't even heard in 20 years. It also opens a trap door to falling into the comfortable and familiar and their associated limitations. Because of the kind of band we are, there will be the neccessity of revisiting our past for inspiration. We need to be aware that we can bury ourselves in that same past and become just another "oldies" band. We are better than that. (Just my personal opinion.) Anyway, something to keep in the back of our minds, what is left of them. :0 When all was said and done it had been an enjoyable evening. Hope Phyllis is on the mend and that some new opportunities fall from the sky for us. There has been a number of outside developements that have kept us all distracted. Here is also hoping those distractions are soon either cherished recollections, or faded memories. The future is before us. What we make of it is up to us. "And now.... back to the adventure, after this word from our sponsors..... UMPA UMPA MOW-MOW KITTY KITTY COW TOW UMPA DIDDLE CAT KADIDDLE KITTY PUDDY POW POW Thank you.
