while mounting a new yamaha the clamp bracket cracked right where the threads at the lower blind mounting hole is located, while tightening the bolt.i made sure all my measurements were right before i started(factory bolt,proper length)and the bolt was not even home yet. any ideas,ever hear of this before? i did not call the dealer yet and am wondering what they will say.tks. |

Bill, There are a few things that can cause what you're asking about. First, it's sometimes possible that your new engine had a bad casting on the bracket and the flaw gave under the pressure of tightening it down. secondly, you didn't mention the year or type of boat(engine size would help too) that you were mounting the engine on. If it's an older boat, and has a wood cored transom, it's possible that the wood coring is softening/rotting, and may compress, therefore the clamp was stressed too much even though the bolt didn't tighten fully, and subsequently gave way. I would suspect that if you aproach your Yamaha dealer and explain the problem(unless of course your transom coring is failing). You'd be surprised at how good Yamahas service is. I know, I have a 175 on my flats boat and they are terrific.
