I just caught my male blue yabby eating aquarium rocks! Yuck! Both he and the female are well fed, so I know he's not just starving. My neighbor has Yabby's that eat rocks and then die shortly afterwards, I'm worried now and was wondering if anyone knows why they might do this??! |

I have not seen ant actually eat the rocks. I have seen them eat the algae or other debrees off the outside of rocks though. They will clean the gravel piece off and then drop it. I have never seen or heard of one that died from this though. |

You will find they are scraping off the micro bacteria that lives on those rocks. Very good source of protein for a crayfish but also an indication the diet you are providing, may be inadequate. http://www.crayfishmates.com crayfish forum |
