Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking for a Euastacus armatus to add to my native fish aquarium setup but due to the sad state of the Murray River there are few left here in South Australia(hard enough to catch a yabbie!). Does anyone know where I may be able to source/buy one in SA? So far it seems a trip to Victoria is the only option. Any help would be great! cheers |

G'Day Jesse Lee, I have a 2 year old Murry cray, he is the only one I have left after a disaster with my tanks getting too warm which caused an explosion in bacteria and I lost them all including the adults. Someday I hope to go back to Victoria and get some more. What suburb/town are you in, we are currently in Andrews Farm. I may be able to get you one depending on how many we catch next trip. You must have a large tank and access to filtered water for it. |

hey bush creature, awesome! that would be great if its no trouble! have a large tank- 4ft 370 lt with some other natives like perch, tandanus and a marron. currently living in beverley which is not too far at all. How do they go in the aqurium, and are their care requirements similar to that of yabbies and marron? they are magnificent looking crayfish. thankyou very much for the offer, if you do come back with a spare shoot me an email to the above email address. cheers! |

g'day Jesse, I just went on a trip to Cohuna to try & catch some crays. Think i left it to late, was the last weekend of the season. A few weeks before everyone was catching heaps. I caught 1 female on my last day on pumkin. She has settled really well into her new 1.8m aquarium with lots of logs & rocks. I will be going up again when the season opens in may & every 3 weeks until it closes.I intend to breed them if I'm lucky enough. If you do happen to catch one in sth aust you have to release it as they are totally protected here. If i get any spares next trip I'll let you know. |

Hi Jesse, I live in S.A. too (Pt.Noarlunga) and have had the same problem as you. Can't get Murray crays for my aquarium. The "Got fish" aquarium shop in Port Noarlunga get them from time to time but they are $25 each, and thats for ones about 1cm long. I need some at least 10cm so my fish don't make a meal of them. If you have any luck please let me know ...Cheers...Dave.. |

Hi all, "Got fish" is now sold out of Murray crays and won't be getting them in anymore. Looks like one of us in S.A. will have to take a road trip! Beware of troopers!!! |

Keep in mind folks, when adding to your collections, the bag limit, sex and time of year. Understand, it takes 8 years to grow to sexual maturity, which means if you take the big males or females from a system then you may well kill the species. Take some juveniles or advanced juveniles and leave the big ones, no matter how good they look in your tank for 6 weeks.... http://www.crayfishmates.com crayfish forum |
