I'm a female high school student who is lookin' for a nice new mouthpeice. A friend of mine who also plays tuba owns a Conn Helleberg and it has really caught my eye. But my question is... How do I know what size is best for me? I currently play on a Vincent Bach 18. Anyone with advise? |

Fit, comfort, sound, and range are what matters with a mouthpiece. I've used both the Bach 18 and Conn Helleberg. Both are great mouthpieces. Try this for fit - With your lips slightly open, place the mouthpiece on you mouth...just under your nose. It should rest just above your chin and feel comfortable. Some mouthpieces just don't fit. For me, the Bach 24 EW is just too big. There is no single rule for that "perfect" mouthpiece. The MAIN THING is this: How does it sound? In all the auditioning I've done, not once has anyone asked the type or size of my mouthpiece. It's all in the sound! Good luck! |
