PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is after the Boy Scouts of America to remove their fishing merit badges. In a letter to the Boy Scouts a portion of which was published in the Louisville Courier Journal, PETA stated:
"In an era of school shootings and hate crimes, it is folly to encourage young boys to harm innocent animals." ..."The Boy Scouts are supposed to be compassionate role models, not bloodthirsty FISHKILLERS" (Emphasis on Fishkillers is mine)
I would hope that any one reading this, especially the guides in Alaska will call their local Boy Scout Troop and volunteer to take a Scout Fishing.
It is apparent that the "Radicals" at PETA now intend to link hunting and fishing to school shootings. I have seen some pathetic "Public Relations" campaigns in my day but this one takes the cake.
Please contact your local Boy Scouts and help to promote fishing in your area.

Dear Jim,
In reading your post re: the Boy Scouts it is apparent to me that with all the education people can take advantage of they are not "intelligent" enough to see the problem.
The problem with school shootings is lack of parental guidance, moral teachings and just plain teaching "right from wrong". Children are running their parents these days.
Far too many children are not exposed to postive activities such as fishing and where Guides are probably the most "reverant" about fishing, what better sport to have out there. They are exposed to DVD's, violent movies, alcohol & drug abusing familie & parents who typically have no family time with them...Gee, what would be the better choice here???
This "PETA" organization needs to stopped and anything we as a Guide Service can do, we will.
I have found over the years that these "radical environmental, peace keeping, save the world" groups usually have members who couldn't find there way out of a paper bag.
I hope people take action and thanks for keeping us informed.

PETA and others like them are unbelievable. In fact, if I didn't know better, I wouldn't believe it.
Hopefully through time, education, our support of sensible conservation, and our support for what hunting and fishing should stand for, (becoming better people through meaningful experiences and challenges), they will be exposed to the majority of people for who they really are...Simply ignorant! george

In response to PETA calling the Boy Scouts of America "bloodthirsty fishkillers". I have called my local chapter and requested to become a fishing merit badge counselor. My grandfather taught me to fish over 40 years ago and with the fishing he instilled in me the love and respect of the outdoors and all that goes with it. I agree the school shootings and hate crimes of today are a terrible thing but perhaps if these misled kids had someone teach them to love and respect the outdoors the outcome would have been different.

I recently read an article where you were trying to make the Boy Scouts of America ban fishing. When are you Idiots going to learn that you are taking things way overboard? If it were not for the people that fish and hunt, there would not be any wildlife for you to watch and "protect". Sportsmen pay close to 1 billion dollars a year in license fee's and equipment. A large portion of this money goes to preserving wildlife habitat. How much money does your organization give to the government for preserving wildlife habitat? Mind you, I am not talking about how much you have spent rallying congress to pass laws that forbid people from feeding their families by using a gun or a rod and reel.
Your types of people are so duplicitous that you make me ill. You kill thousands of animals every day, if you stop and think about it. Every time you get glass of water from the sink, take a bath, wash clothes, or water your yard, millions of tiny animals are killed by the chemicals used to make this water safe for you to use. When you go to a restaurant to eat your salad and turn your nose up at people eating meat, just think about all the rodents and insects you have killed by eating that salad. They spray insecticides on those crops. You are killing animals!!
Do you see how anal this is getting? Everyone kills something. It is called the Circle of Life. Go back to spaying cats and rescuing animals from abusive owners. I support you on that one hundred percent. Please respond to this E-mail I would like to see how far up your chain of bull*#@ it will go. If it goes past the trash can of the first person that reads it, I will be very surprised. You wouldn't want your cult of members to read and see how many animals they have killed. They might have to kill their selves because the guilt of their murdering ways will be too much for them to bear.

Actually PETA has not posted on this site. I posted the original post as a service to let the fishermen and women of Alaska know about this going on. More than likely your points are falling on deaf PETA ears as I am sure they do not visit this site full of Fish Killers.
However if you want to help contact your local Boy Scout Troop and take a scout and his dad fishing or offer to help him earn a fishing merit badge.

This Thanksgiving I fed more than 20 persons staying at my Hotel. Not one requested Tofu Turkey or just a salad. I had two-23lb. birds cooked up with the works, a very nice time...I've Emailed PETA about what I thought about them and the fact they want to ban fishing from the Boy Scouts. Instead of a reply they sent a message to my web server complaining that I could not send them anymore messages or email or they would take them to court....I stopped at the request of my web server. You have to watch out for this kind of nuts as they have more money than brains and would not stop at anything to get even. Poor Boy Scouts, first its the fags now its PETA. Whats next? Mad Cow....Anthrax? Don't put it past them......Have a good one... JOE

What ever happened the ethical treatment to the rights of americans, Why is it there is not an animal bill of rights?, natural selection, where the strong survive. The folks at peta should be ashamed of themselves, if they really are interested in makeing a difference why not try to feed the hungry (one king salmon could feed a small town in africa for nearly a week), or they could even try to help the thousands of kids that are abused in this country daily. Is fishing really the cause of the violence in today's youth, I was and still am a boy scout and started fishing at very young age, that reminds me, I feel I need to go shoot some of my neighbors or maybe co-workers, I'll get back to you when I can.
Thanks.
