Hello Gentlemen,As a new resident to Oil City, I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am a 27 year old student at Clarion University and I moved to Oil City in August. I am currently student teaching at Oil City High School (Biology).I enjoy fishing for anything that swims, although trout and smallies are definitely at the top of the list. I am also fortunate enough to have a friend who lives in Soldotna, Alaska, and the silver salmon is the fish that haunts my dreams each night. My family owns a primitive camp in Elk County, and I have had a love affair with the Clarion River for the past few years. I am hoping that Oil Creek and the other streams in this area will have the same captivating effect on me. I am certain they will.If anyone from the area is interested in wetting a line together, feel free to contact me. If not, I hope to see you on the stream!Take care,Rick McClelland

Hi Rick , welcome to the area...First I want to congradulate you on your profession....teaching ...not nearly enough of you and the pay is not nearly enough for what you do....please teach these children compassion.....and respect ..... now for the fishing......I believe you will find oil creek a very pleasant place to fish..as it is one of my favorites ....I live in Ohio but have a camp about 8 miles from Oil..north of Titusville..... The stream is great for both trout and smallies.....the best area I have found for smallies is below the dam at blood farm....excellent .... Good luck in your choice of careers as well as fishing Oil.....maybe we can meet with Warren and a few others on Oil next spring ...(early ..before opening day and chat some and wet some lines)....excellent creek that gives you time to reflect on how lucky we are... Welcome again, just to give you guys a heads up, I am planning to have a get together next spring for the regulars of this site. It will be a all day thing with a bbq lunch and the works, along with lots of fishing of course.just something to keep in the back of your mind. Also if people are interested, I would be interested in doing the same this fall, only for some steelhead fishing. Let me know what you guys think.Sorry about the lack of updates on the site lately, I have been real busy at work and am also in the process of buying a house. Both are taking up much of my time. I do have lots to put out, I just have to find the time to do so.Take Care and thanks for supporting the site.Warren

Rick:I grew up in OC and return there to my family every long weekend. For what the wild trout lack in size, they make up for in quantity. Any stream that keeps its water fairly cool all year has brookies in it. I was very surprised last year when I had an awesome afternoon fishing Yellow sallies to very nice wild Browns in the stream I grew up on, Sage Run. They were obviously river fish that took refuge from the River in the previous year's drought and decided to stay. Sage Run otherwise wouldn't host many 12"+ wild browns. This is a benefit of fishing unpressured streams with good cover and the river nearby. Plus, the steelhead are simply phenomenal.
