I have a Toshiba PDR-M5 camera I bought refurb. It worked fine for a day or four and then, unless plugged in, would not operate. I bought a new battery, same thing.
I noticed if I squeezed the camera body gently, it would come to life on just the battery. As I gently squeezed various area of the camera, I noticed that in the area of the flash button (under the status display) it was most sensitive. I could hold the button down firmly and it would stay on.
I fixed the camera by removing the black frame that holds the status display and vewfinder (pops right off) and I wedged a stiff wad of paper behind the status display component and it works.
