Since most Christians believe they will be going to Heaven, what did Jesus meant when he said, "the meek shall inherit the earth" at Matthew 5:5?

Jesus (Y'shua) is returning to the earth some day to set up His Kingdom for a thousand years. I believe it is after this thousand years that there will be a new heaven and a new earth. In Zachariah it speaks about His return to the Mount of Olives in Y'rushalaim (Jerusalem)
Zechariah 14:5 "On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives will split apart, making a wide valley running from east to west, for half the mountain will move toward the north and half toward the south."
Acts 1:9-11 "It was not long after he said this that he (Jesus) was taken up into the sky while they were watching, and he disappeared into a cloud. As they were straining their eyes to see him, two white-robed men suddenly stood there among them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. And someday, just as you saw him go, he will return!"
Revelation 20:4 "Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus, for proclaiming the word of God. And I saw the souls of those who had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years."

When you are speaking about the "new heavens and new earth", where are you referencing that? Is it from 2 Peter 3:13? If you are, how are you certain that it is literal and not figurative? When Jesus stated "happy are the meek since they will inherit the earth", he was quoting from David's Psalm (Psalm 37). Was King David talking about a new physical earth or the one he was living on? If there is going to be a literal "new heavens and new earth", what's wrong with the heavens and the earth that now exist? Why does a new one need to be created? And what about the scriptures that says about the literal earth "...the earth is standing even to time indefinite" (Ecc 1:3), "...it(the earth) will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever" (Ps 104:5). Many "Christians" believe that the physical earth will be destroyed but the scriptures say otherwise. Our day is just like Noah's day, full of wickedness and wicked men---the Creator destroyed those people back then and cleansed the earth of it, only Noah and his family survived because they obeyed the Creator. The physical earth remained because there was nothing wrong with the physical earth...only that it has been polluted. But if men cease polluting the earth, the earth rejuvenates itself (i.e. Valdez incident). Again, the Creator will cleansed the earth of wickedness and again the earth will be restored like in Noah's day and again there will be survivors just like in Noah's day. The survivors will be the ones that heed Jesus's voice. The Bible is like no other book. It reveals what is in a person's heart...whether it is selfish, haughty, arrogant, wicked, you name it...(Hebrews 4:12) If it is a humble and honest heart, the Creator will open the veil so the person can see the truth.(1 Corinthians 4:3,4) If it is not, the person will never know what the meaning of the Bible is....no matter how many times it is read. If you are referencing 2 Peter 3:13, please read the whole chapter 3...maybe you will get the sense of it.

My short answer to this question of a "new heaven and a new earth", is that our Earth is imperfect. Revelations says that nothing imperfect will enter the Kingdom. Therefore, everything must be purified, including our souls. The reason we have death, sickness, and depression is that everything is "passing away" as Paul tells us. As the old saying goes: "out with the old and in with the new"...but that includes our hearts, minds, and spirits. One day there will be a perfect world, where no one grows old, gets sick, or dies. Every tree will be in full bloom all year, just like the Garden as it was "In the Beginning".

The question of meekness means those who "put off the natural man," and submit themselves as little children do, to the will of their parents. God is the Father of our spirits. If we submit to Him, as Jesus did, the as Paul said, "We become joint heirs with Christ." What did Christ inherit? Thrones, principalities, kingdoms, worlds without end. "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth."
The earth shall become "The Throne of God," and another earth shall become "His footstool." During the time of Noah, the earth was completely covered by water. If the earth is imperfect, as was suggested, then it needed to be cleansed. The flood signified a type of baptism, wherein all that was impure was washed away leaving that which was less impure. Jesus said that a man must be born of the water and the Spirit in order to enter into God's presence again. Baptism is the birth of the water. The birth of the Spirit is often referred to by John the Baptist as a baptism of fire. Why fire? Let's use this analogy: If we are more precious than gold to Our Heavenly Father, and refined gold has been heated by fire to extreme temperatures to be purified, then shouldn't we? If the earth was truly baptized, as I suspect, then the second baptism--the birth of the spirit--must be a purification by fire.
Yet, in all the cleansing and purificating, the righteous need not fear. God has more in store for us than we can possibly imagine. So rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Attoning Sacrifice for us, for without Him, and what He has done, the would be no cause to hope!

One "Voice of many waters" bringing clarity in a time of great confusion declaring that the Lord is calling His elect from the ends of the earth. Let him that has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.

In order to truly understand and experience the truth of this passage at a deeper level we must come to the place in our walk with God where we see the earth first and primaily as "us". All of God's dealings with man on this planet called earth, although they have had, do have and will yet have their practical fulfillment, are metaphors of a greater reality in the Spirit realm. We ARE primarily SPIRIT beings who HAVE A SOUL and LIVE IN a human EARTHen vessel. God's purpose from the beginning is to inhabit OUR (personal) earth... to take up His residence and establish is throne IN His people. By so doing He is establishing His Kingdom in the physical earth and He through His own shall be a blessing to all nations of the earth at large.
In agreement with the previous writer I would say that the meek (humbly and selflessly submitted to God) are those who, by His grace, have become conformed to the image of Christ and walk in the mind of Christ.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied (humbled) Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself (was meek) by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Phi 2:5-11)
They receive the inheritance that can only be given to those who can be trusted with it as a result of the working of the cross in their lives have become selfless as Jesus Christ is selfless. In fact it is not I who live, but Christ who now lives in me.
”Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”
(Col 3:12)
It is God’s heart to give the Sons of God total dominion over their whole being (their earth). This IS the promised land and the nations that currently dominate that land, nations such as procrastination, denominations, discrimination, etc. are being brought into submission to the King who reigns within us. Not until we, His elect, have overcome these enemies in (our) promised land, given to us as our inheritance in Christ, will we have dominion. And, not until we have dominion over our own land(earth) will we, in meekness, be given authority to rule and reign in the earth at large.
'He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS;
(Rev 2:26)
'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
(Rev 3:21)
"He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.
(Rev 21:7)

Enough of the pompous attitude folks. None of you really know what the answers are unless you read them in your Bible. What does your heart tell you my friend?

Jesus was tempted to own all the kingdoms of the world, including Israel. He turned it down.
He is the earth, and it's natural beauty, not earthly kingdoms. Not even America.
He died on a tree, was buried like a seed. Though we believe He resurrected, His blood remains here in this precious earth with us.
GO take a walk in the forest, and you may better understand who God is. And stay away from religion. Religion and politicians killed Him, afterall.
He is the Bright and Morning Star in the heavens (Venus), the last star you see in the morning.

Its simple, when all is said and done the meek shall be free in this world with Christ ruling on his throne in Juruselem. All the evil Men will be in Hell buts Gods people shall be free.
Imagine all the evil men right now being gone from this world. Think how great it would be and all nations would live together in peace.
No evil men taxing you for the land you live on or coming and trying to put dumb rules over you or steal your land.
