Have you heard this one?

Barbara Richmond writes in her book "Jewish Insights Into The New Testament" that since the job of preserving God's word was given to the Jews we are going to see errors in our New Testaments because they rely too much on Greek instead of Hebrew or Aramaic. One "error" she points out is that Yeshua could not have gone to the house of Simon the leper (Mk 14:3) because a leper would not have lived in the city let alone had a house in there, nor would Jesus have gone to the house of a leper as a strict observer of the law (interesting- I think my Jesus would have gone there to do some healing, not that this passage reveals such), but most importantly the original Hebrew or Aramaic manuscript would have been rendered something like "Simon the jar maker". She says that the vowel-less Aramaic was rendered inaccurately by Greek translators because GAR'BA (leper) was seen instead of GARABA (jar merchant-maker).

I have a parallel KJV/Aramaic work by Herb Jahn, who renders it (correctly, I believe) as Simon the leper. Do you know of any Hebrew manuscript, ancient or otherwise, that would contradict this?

Thank you, so much for your time, Adam Slobodow

I have a bible(published in Y'rushalaim)in modern hebrew and it is rendered as "Shim'on HaM'tzora'" Simon the leper. I am not familiar with the word M'tzora but if I find out more about the word, I will let you know.

Evidently this word for leper is also used in Leviticus;"This shall be the ritual for a leper at the time that he is to be cleansed" (Leviticus 14:2) in order to teach a crucial lesson about both illness and enslavement. The words
translated here as "ritual for a leper" are Torat ham'tzora, literally,"the Torah (Teaching) of the leper "

Here's a site I found on the subject "m'tzora". You may not agree with everything said in the article but it is very informative regarding the use of this word in the Tanach. I personally think it is very likely that this was the word was also used in the original New Covenant text.

Snunit,
Thank you for that website: "Heart of Israel". I agree with its statement that we are all "Priest, Prophet, and King". As the Jews are "natural" children of YHWH, all those who are baptized into the Body of Christ are "adopted" children...with all the same birth-rights and priviledges. However, as a baptized son, I honor my Hebrew brothers and sisters as my elders.

I have heard of this before. One such translation that agrees with this stance is the Hebraic Roots Version. This version is highly debatable and controversial, as you might have guessed, due to the hypothesis that the Greek was translated from an original Hebrew manuscript. As one author put it in the foreword, the Greek translation is "linguistic anarchy"... many scholars have independently come to this conclusion. I am not taking a stance either way. I'm simply passing on the information. Blessings.

I had a copy of the New Testament in school.
Someone had drawn the hugest cock you've ever seen in your life on it. It made it look like Jesus was bumming an apostle. The apostle was probably Paul. He always seemed a bit of a 'trampoline excavator' to me.
