I just posted my questions but I see I made a typing error!! The "non invasive" procedure is called Port Access. The surgeons insert tubes into the blood vessels of the neck and groin. These tubes are then threaded through the vessels until they reach the heart. Once the patient is connected to the heart-lung machine, surgeions then operate ont he heart in much the same way they would during raditional, open-chest heart surgery.

I had the surgery for severe regurgitation 2 years ago Feb and had only 2 options. One was through the breast bone, and the other was through a rib. My surgeon said that the scar would be about the same length and the rib cut was more painful because he would have to cut muscles. I chose the breast plate. I was back to work in 3 weeks and have had no problems. It was a hard decision to make to have the surgery but now I'm very glad I had it. He put a Annuloplasty Ring on my Mitral Valve to repair it and mazed the heart to prevent runaway beats. I don't have to take anything, watch what I do or eat and have had absolutely no problems since.
