I've been having problems since Feb '07. The doctor thinks it's a combination of anxiety/panic attacks with my MVP. At the most random times all of a sudden I'll notice my heart beat and it feels like it's slowing down, then I get dizzy and it starts beating like crazy. I'm wearing an event monitor and today I had one. Of course I didn't have the monitor ON so by the time I fumbled to get it I missed the first 15 seconds. I guess my question is:Does anyone experience the slow palpitations before they have the rapid heart beat? It freaks me out and feels like my heart is going to stop.

I was diagnosed with MVP when I was a teenager. I was put on a beta blocker. I stopped taking it after a year and I seemed to be fine. For the next few years I mainly had just skipping beats/fluttering. But for the past month I have developed problems again. I have awoke to a pounding heart, fluttering, pressure in my chest with sudden slowing of the heart. It keeps me laying awake and can't go to sleep for hours sometimes. I stand up and feel light headed. It is so frustrating. You can't help but get panicky. I find myself contantly placing my fingers up to my neck to feel my pulse. I try changing positions and can't seem to get comfortable. I have also been feeling the sinsation of bubbles gurgling around in my chest. I obviously need to get back to the DR to get back on medication. It frustrates my family members and I feel bad. I have had a glass or 2 of wine after several hours of dealing with it and it actually seems to help the symptoms although I know they say alcohol is not good. But it really doea seem to help me. It is for sure a frustrating thing to deal with. It cause me to have anxiety as well. I hope that when I get back on meds that it helps cause i am having a hard time dealing with it. If anyone would like to share tips on dealing with it please e mail me at coloradodmfan@aol.com Thank you and I hope the best for you!

I don't like to advocate the use of alcohol, but it's always helped me. I guess it depends on if alcohol dependency runs in your family. If it does, I would be very careful!!! I've said it before, but giving up all caffeiene & sugar will produce miraculous results. Give it about 3 months. I wish everyone would try this; it really, really worked for me. I hardly even notice that I have MVP anymore.

MVP is slowly driving me crazy, at least that's what i think it looks like to an outsider. i think i have a heightened awareness (especially in bed) of what my heart's doing and when i can't 'feel' it beating, my anxiety levels rise causing my heart to pound and my head to feel funny. i also get a lots of different types of chest pain with it; sometimes it's short and sharp, sometimes it's dull and achy (which often lasts a few hours), and of course i get the fluttering - which bothers me the least. shortness of breath comes about when i feel a crushing sensation on my chest, i get it on and off throughout the day and deep slow breathing usually calms me down, though i've found time is the biggest relief and i just have to wait and get through it. does anyone else get tingling in the left arm/hand? after a night of heavy drinking i certainly pay for it the next day, a hangover is usually the least of my worries (although alcohol :) offers me short-term relief). though i'm told it's relatively harmless and i just have to live with it, i'm having trouble dealing with all of these symptoms because i'm so scared my heart is going to stop. i was diagnosed with MVP a few years back, i'm now 21 and in good health but the anxiety gets me down a lot, i've got beta blockers but try to only take them when i really really need them - even then they are no cure. i wish i personally knew someone else that was going through the same thing as me; it's hard to explain to people what i have to live with (so i generally don't bother). But it's nice to see i'm not alone and relating with other peoples stories helps me, and for some reason, temporally restores a sense of self-calm.

Jose, have you tried giving up coffee and sugar? This helped my MVP oh, SO UNBELIEVABLY. I want to shout this from the ROOFTOPS!!!! I've still been able to drink a couple of beers and/or a glass wine each evening - not too much, especially wine, which contains sugar. Ya know, I really don't like to advocate alcohol dependency, but WHISKEY (Scotch, Bourbon, etc.) doesn't contain sugar or carbs. So if you're used to having a glass of wine in the evening, it may be better to switch to a Scotch-and-soda. But please consider giving up coffee and sugar. I think this is the best-kept medical secret of the 21st century! Try it for 3 months and post your progress on this website, OK?
