I came across your web page when looking for the germs idenfying ethnic dolls. I started a collection, using primarily Ebay, but making some contacts directly too, and the idea of following up the hobby with actual opportunities to meet craftswomen really appeals to me. You sound like an example..and I love your web page |

I am interested that you are collecting ethnic dolls. When I was a child/teenager I collected 'costume dolls' fascinated by their clothing. I have recently got my collection back when my parents sold up their house. I suppose the dolls in the collection much now be 30-40 years old. Little did I realise what an obsession the clothing would become! I am afraid that I do not know much about ethnic doll collection now although I always look with interest when I see any but in most cases what I seem to see are poor quality ones made for the tourist market. If I saw a 'real doll' dressed in traditional costume for a child to play with I would be very interested. I am attracted to children's clothing because it takes up much less room than adult costume. http://www.pacross.net mainly tribal textiles and techniques |
