I'm trying to think of a good punch line for that joke dog, I'll get back to ya. (Maybe they ordered a Client #9). Thanks for Valerie, I had never heard it. Amy's back up band, The Dap Kings work with Sharon Jones. Have you heard her?? She's fanatastic and is finally getting the recogition she deserves. I think she started out with TDK before Amy. She was a correction officer and never got a main stream deal because she "didn't look the part". They rehearsed in the basement of Desco Vacuum Co. on 14th St. where I used to buy the bags (size K) for my vacuum cleaner!! They first released LP's on the "Desco" label and only used intruments and technology that was available up until 1975. That way, they got the retro sound they wanted. I'm linking "100 Days, One Hundred Nights" and then will follow up with a live performance in France that's really cool. http://youtube.com/watch?v=8ouI5KcyHfE |

Just to keep it all together, here's Amy singing Valerie with The Dap Kings. I was wondering if it was the same version as The Monkees' "Valerie"? :)...no, of course not. We've discussed before that Mike Nesmith was already "in the dough" since mommy invented White Out when he started. Not to confused with "Wipe Out", hit record by The Surfaris in '63 on Dot Records with "Surfer Joe on the "B". (Don't ask me why I retain all this useless information). http://youtube.com/watch?v=7CJzMkvJUno |

What about these guys Goat? Do you remember them? They're kinda goofy looking to me. Stage presence needed an overhaul. Watch how the singer takes the mic from the stand around 2:15 and does the little Mick shuffle. I bet he had to rehearse that a few times. I think the guitar players neck is broken. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCVHAjTBb1U |

Ok, so I read about them. Singer was Ian Curtis who hanged himself in 1980 on the eve of their 1st American tour. Band renamed New Order after that. |

Hi Clyde, yes of course I know Joy Division, one of the bands I played night and day "in the day" and mostly at night. "Closer" is one of my fav LP's. A Means To An End has to be one of the most powerful tracks I know, with the durgy guitar chords and Ian's haunting vocals. There are a couple of films out on JD, one a documentary and the other, a film based on their music. I forget the name of the band that was chosen to portray JD but they did all the vocals and music. I saw New Order when they first formed in 1981...great show. "Bizarre Love Triangle" is about Ian's death. Here's a link to Interpol, a current band heavily influenced by JD. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ibr6PZhzTRk |
