I was a junior engineer on a P&O cargo ship MV Soudan 52 to 54 and last night after watching again the film of the Yangtze incident brought memories of my visits to Communist China. Lying in Singapore I think must have been round about July 53 when the news broke in the local paper that we were to sail for New China as the first British Merchant ship to enter Chinese waters after the Yangtze incident. Some experience that was. I wonder if anyone has memories and a copy of the newspaper headlines. |
