OK every one...Question #1, What unit was stationed at Black Horse? #2 Where was the 544th stationed? #3 Who was the support company stationed at Gia Ray? #4 Where was the 293 based at. Thanks Much Jimmy |

#1--11th Armoured Cavalry Regliment. They pulled security for us at Gia Ray i.e. sweeping the road for mines each morning and they would return each night (one squadron--5 Tracks )and we would have a "mad minute" (maximum fire power for 60 seconds)just before it got dark. #2As I recall (and Lord I might be wrong) the 544th was a Dump Company (5 ton dumps) that was attached to the 36th at Vung Tau. They hauled rock from our crusher to the pier which was then loaded on barges and shipped to the Delta. #3 I was assigned to A Co. 36th. I was at Gia Ray from 5-4-68 to 5-18-68. That 's when we shut down the operation and went back to Vung Tau. I don't know what happened after we left Gia Ray(maybe the ARVN'S took over). Some of us from A Co. were there but I don't if A Co. was the support Co. you're talking about. #4 I don't have a clue who the 293 was or where they were.--Take Care--Larry Acuff (p.30 guestbook) |
