Hello! I've just discovered your message board ... I too researched for months before becoming a Pap owner. I purchased one for us and one for my 20 yo daughter with epilepsy, asthma, & bipolar disorder. Both girls are now 6 months old and are AMAZING! My daughter's girl has already served as an incredible companion and is just starting private training. We hope to train her to hit a K-9 Medic Alert button if our daughter gets into trouble. Her ability to love and give emotional support is instinctive and it gives me such a feeling of peace as a parent that my daughter is being watched out for by such a beautiful butterfly angel!
If anyone has any info that I can pass on to the trainer (or any other trainer info) regarding therapy/service training for paps I'd be grateful. It's obvious this guy has only worked with large breeds and was VERY skeptical that a toy breed could do anything more than "yap". He never said or implied anything but his sheer amazement and joy at the girls behavior and intelligence is obvious!

Well, I considered it with my 9 month old pap. Her name is Daisy. I had done a lot of research on the subject and decided against it. One of my reasons is the steps they take to create an attitude for a therepy dog. Basicly, chase them down the halls clanging pots and pans. I know Daisy would not appreciate that and wouldn't put up with it at all!!! There is a shortage of "small-dog" therepy dogs. ranging from 5-25lbs. Hope this helps a little!

My own Pap is a support dog, not a true service dog but he does the job in helping me deal with bi-polar and depression.
