I thought we could play a little 'What If?' History. What if... after the Empire attacked Princess Leia's ship, Tantive IV, and took her prisoner, that Imperial officer HAD given the order to destroy the lifepod carrying C3-PO and R2-D2?? If, instead of fobbing off his underlings because there were no life signs, he'd said "yeah, go on then. Might as well. Just to be on the safe side" then the droids would have been destroyed, they'd never have been captured by Jawas and sold to Luke Skywalker who would never have discovered Leia's message to Obi-Wan Kenobi, he'd most likely continued to toil on his uncle's moisture farm, never have met Obi-Wan, Han Solo, and he'd never have gone to the Death Star to save Princess Leia, who would have been executed by Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin would have used the Death Star to destroy the Rebel Alliance once and for all. Hmmm, that would have made an interesting film.

Then the Emperor will have supreme power with the Death Star and the massive Imperial Fleet. That would be "Interesting."

Ok, so I was watching the news yesterday. Which is something that I only recently started paying attention to, because they used to only talk about the economy and polotics and I don't understand that stuff so it was boring. And we had just taken Baghdad (or for the most part) and the people of Irac were celebrating in this square, they got these chains around the statue of Saddam and they started pulling and the statue falls down with a thump. My first thought was, "Wow! it's just like when the people of coruscant pulled down the statue of the Emperor." Is that sad or what?

That's pretty sad that you can compare Iraq to the Empire.

I have to defend Tine. I thought exactly the same thing. Except, of course, Palpatine's statue came down much easier (and was much larger). Saddam's statue just buckled at the feel and after hanging like that for a few minutes later snapped. Definately a great moment in history, a great moment for Iraq and it's people, and a water-mark for the Anglo-American relationship, now stronger than ever I think (I hope).

Being, as I am, the author of this thread, I am painfully aware that out of (not including this one) 27 posts, only 5 (including my own introduction) are actually related to the topic. But then, I guess that's my fault for posting a dull topic.

Geez, I wasn't expecting you to agree with me THAT quickly!! I pointed out in my first post that in the Episode IV, when the droids escape from the blockade-runner on an escape pod with Leia's message to Obi-Wan, if that imperial had let that guy blow up the escape pod then Luke would never have bought the droids, got the message and he'd probably still be on the moisture farm. As it was, there were no life-signs on the pod so it was left alone. I was wondering if anyone else could think of any more incidences where if someone had just done something a little bit different or if something else hadn't happened.... oh never mind. I got the idea from a conversation with a friend about Shakespeare's King Lear, where we realised that if that darned messenger had just got that bit more of a move on, Cordelia wouldn't have been hanged, Lear wouldn't have died, and the story would be rather more jolly -- but then it wouldn't be much of a tragedy.

And there was me thinking that Shakespeare was loves the whole world over! King Lear is my favourite play and I studied it at A-Level, hence my particular interest. I'm a bit Kenneth Branagh fan and I saw Sir Nigel Hawthorne play Lear in London shortly before his sad death. He was brilliant. I've also seen Comedy of Errors actually at the Globe!! There's nothing like seeing Shakespeare acutually at the Globe, where it was meant to be seen! I highly recommend it to any Americans visiting London. If it's Shakespeare and it's at the Globe, for goodness sake, GO AND SEE IT!!!

I don't get Shakespear. I just don't see why he's so great. His plays are annoying. You always have to read 'em for school, and they never make any sense. He uses three sentances to say what I could say in one. I don't know why GMA left. Maybe you could ask him? You live in the same country and all. England can't be that big. I have suspisions about why he left, but I'm not going to say them.

granted they are not so great to read, (well some of them are good) but they are a hell of a lot better when you watch them. Also they tend to pick the boring ones for school, like the history ones and the comedys are so much better, especially when you see them on stage. Also, you can't tell me you didn't see the modern version of Romeo and Julliet?? I thought that was wicked!! And okay, i'll ask him
