Author Topic:   definition of "borgy"

Why does everybody care so much? GMA mentions the word 'borgy' and everyone goes bezerk. No one knows the definition. I think that we should come up with our own. also, if there are any other words that need to have a meaning, we'll do them here too.

OK. My definition of 'borgy' is that it would be one of the ultimate insults. About the only thing that I know about Star Trek is that there is a race called 'borg'. So calling someone 'borgy' means they are a trekkie (i.e. I don't want them near me)
which is just plain WRONG!
Aims posted 7/3/03 9:17 PM
err... i like star treck!!!

GET OUT YOU PICARD SCUM!
Darth Tine posted 7/6/03 10:12 PM
"Guess who?" is closed so I'll carry on the conversation here.
To Aims: Oh... Why didn't that thought accure to me? I never even saw that possibility. Since you might actually see him again someday you should ask him.
Alan: I looked up York on a map. You're pretty far north, but as I have no concept on how big England is could you tell me how long it takes to get to Essex? And I live in the western suburbs of Chicago, only half an hour from ILYIK. Unfortunatly. ;)
ILYIK: And what exactly is that supposed to mean? "Look everybody I'm Darth Tine"? We've almost always gotten along, Gregory, but recently you've just been pushing all my buttons. So cut back a little OK?
Da Wookie posted 7/6/03 11:43 PM
1. I was actually the one who introduced "Borgy" to the conversation. And I didn't know it was an insult, otherwise I wouldn't have used it to refer to a complete stranger, no offense, Alan.
2. There's nothing wrong with star trek, it's just that Star Wars is just WAY cooler than star trek. and also that "trekies" just have a bad name.
3. Darth Tine, There is NO carrying on of conversations from one topic to an already existing one. If you want to do that, you need to start a new topic.
Darth Tine posted 7/7/03 3:44 PM
Huh, punk? Ya got a problem with me? Ya want some of this? Bring it on. I do what I want when I want to do it, so there.
I don't agree with your definition of borgy, ILYIK. I think that since the borg are one of the only cool things in the star trek galaxy, that borgy should mean that despite everything bad that is going against you, somwhere inside yourself you do have a spot of coolness, even though it doesn't show up often enough.
Da Wookie posted 7/7/03 5:12 PM
My definition of borgy would be this. it would mean you like conformity, but don't want to chage yourself, you want everyone else to change (just like Calvin). and if they don't willingly change you force them to.

Hey guys. I'm back. Sorry I've been away for so long.
Looks like I missed quite a bit. Threads closing and all. Been so busy. Now have 2 jobs in pubs, rehersing for a play and still training with TA. It's all good...I think...except for the pain I'm in from training last night...D'oh!
Lets see, where to begin...
Borgy...I think I see what you were getting at now. I just wanted Aims off the CPU and all to myself. I couldn't help my self...No offence taken Da Wookie...just a new one on me. Cheers for the info bud.
Where I live...if I'm allowed to answer this one...Yeah York is a long way. By train it'll take me about 2-3 hours with a couple of changes. Not totally confident of all the times but that's what the GNER websight says at the mo. I'll keep looking. What's even more of a bummer is that I'm off to Newcastle Uni and Aims is off to Bath. Look that up on a map! Safe to say I've just been looking into this one and it looks like a longer journey! But it's do-able with a couple of train changes. So I'll do it.
Well I'll catch you guys l8er, gotta close dem eyes now so I can open them again in a a few hours and do dat work thing.
Damn!
Darth Tine posted 8/22/03 1:55 AM

TA is Teritorial Army. I joined a while ago. A bit of income and it's good fun..most of the time...except when I get beasted to hell!!...but enough of that.
How's you guys?
So now us Brits have odd slang. Ah well.
So what did you get of my last message?

Territorial Army? what is that?
Darth Tine posted 9/3/03 9:21 PM
Ok, so I lied. I apologize. I understood most of what you said except for that army thing and GNER. What's GNER mean? Greater Nerds of English Railways? Great National Electric Railroads? General Neat English Roads? Gigantic Neon Energized Rowboats?

Hey I popped up again. Just started Uni. Lots and lots happening!!
One of which being breaking my hand on the first day here.Great start!!I was snowboarding on a dry ski slope, nasty things! Had to dodge a kid, even nastier things!!
TA, teritorial army is a reserve army. I train part time but to the same standard as the rest of the army, we're quite a specialist troop. And when war breaks out we fill up the gaps in the real army, example - basra, all my friends were out there, whilst I was in Namibia getting to know Aims. I got the better deal!
GNER - Great North Eastern Raileways. One of our train service providers. Should say - Got No Effective Railway though. They're not always so good!
Well I hope all is well with you guys. Must go now. Have to try and sort some stuff out so I can do all my studdies with a broken hand.
Later!
Darth Tine posted 9/21/03 9:43 PM
Ummm. Pardon me for once again not understanding you. How do you snowboard on a dry ski slope. Surely you don't already have snow?
So TA is like our National Guard? You go and do your thing with the army on weekends and guard airports and stuff? that's cool.
No Name posted 9/22/03 8:10 PM
Dry ski slope is an artificial surface that you can ski or board on. Some of the newer surfaces are quite nice and forgiving when you wipe out but the older ones are many of these synthetic nylon/plastic diamonds making up the surface. The diamonds are about 4-6 inches lengthways. If you land wrongly they will litterally take your thumbs off of something of equall dramatic effect - ie: spirally fracture your 4th metacarpal, quite painful trust me!
Yeah the Tlike your national guard the I guess. We don't tend to have as high a state of security as you though so unless there is a war on then most TA troops and squadrons are on minimal allert. And if and instalations need guarding then the regular army usually does it. Or a specific security firm.
NE way. I'll catch yop guys later.
Dark Death Dude posted 9/25/03 10:08 PM
Whoa. What does NE mean? North Emerica?
Darth Tine posted 9/30/03 9:36 PM
I don't know that boy and I am nowhere near to being related to him. Say "NE way" outloud DDD. I think that you're just pretending not to get it. Shame on you.
GO CUBS!!!!! Holy cow! This is the year!!! (For those of you who don't know, my city's baseball team just made it to the playoffs. The team that hasn't won a world series for 95 years. I'm a little excited.)
No Name posted 10/2/03 9:59 PM
Hey.
Cheers DT.
So how the cubs doing? 95 years. Harsh man. I don't really follow all that much sport, prefer to play it. Hockey mostly. Used to play rugby too.
NE way - get that one DDD? - I'll catch u guys around. Should probably go and do some more revision for my test 2moro. Yes I know 3 weeks in and being tested already and assesed in practicals. Great fun!!
The hand's healing quite nicely. The two screws don't seem to be to obtrusive and the scartissue - 'that I wish you saw...' - and swelling is going down. Should have quite a meaty scar for a while.
Catch u guys l8er.
Dark Death dude posted 10/3/03 8:22 PM
I'm hurt. I'm going to go sit in a corner for 6 hours and cry. NE way.....(grrr....)
Darth Tine posted 10/3/03 10:37 PM
If your gonna go cry, why aren't you gone yet? I've been waiting for you to leave for years, but you keep staying. And Dad won't sell you into white slavery. Life is full of dissapointments.
Hey, Alan. Sounds like you really smashed your hand. They had to put screws in it? Ouch. That just sounds digusting. So, what's your major in college?
No Name posted 10/4/03 5:29 PM
Don't go all wet on us DDD. It's not becoming of an evil thing of the night...
Yeah I really bashed my hand good. It's a little lumpy at the moment, and apparently the screws might be a little obtrusive. I liked my hands too!!
Life sucks hu!!
My degree at the moment is called 'Biological Sciences (Deferred Choice)'. I can specify down into a multitude of aspects in my second and third year.
I could get a degree in Physiology
Pharmacology, Biochemistry,
Biochemisty with Biotechnology,
Biochemistry with Immunology,
Molecular Biology,Genetics, Human Genetics, Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Medical Microbiology & Immunology and finally Biomedical Sciences.
And before you say I'm really sad for typing all that out, I just copied and pasted from a document on our intranet.
Yes It's heavy. I've had 2 assesed practicals already and one incourse test. The marks all go towards our final grade this year! Great!! I'm only three weeks in!!
If I want to be really sadistic then I can transfer to Medicine after the first year, if I'm good enough = 5 years, or I can get a degree in Biomedical Sciences and the transfer to medicine for another 4 years here!! 7 Years at University. How expensive!!?!
Not sure if I want to do that yet. Might do. We'll just have to see.
Well Keep having fun guys.
Catch you l8er.
Darth Tine posted 10/9/03 9:58 PM
Wow. You're into that kind of thing, huh? That's interesting. Bet that takes a lot of Math. Da Wookie's really good at math, always gets A's, but I hate it. I'm pretty sure that I'm a C student in that department. Do you British use the same grading system as us Americans?
No Name posted 10/11/03 3:17 PM
I'm OK at maths I guess.
I got an A at CGSE level - the exams you do at 16. After them you can leave school.
I didn't do it a A-level 16-18. I did Bio, Chem & Physics
I never used to like maths a whole lot but now i dont mind it. There is a bit of maths in the course but not a whole lot. I get by ok.
The think that used to really get me was chemistry. I found that really hard at A-level. It's seems to be ok at the moment though.
If I ever have any trouble with maths I'm now pretty sorted cause i can call on Aims or Da Wookie now i guess. Got to be a bonus.
Our grading system at GCSE's runs:
A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, U - I think.
U is unclassified and A* is the best you can hope for.
AT GCSE A* to C are generally the grades you want to be within.
At A-level there is no A*. Just A, B, C, D, E I think.
At Uni we work on a totally different system.
First, 2,1, 2,2.
I just thought, how old are you guys?
Work is ok at the moment.
My dad comes up 2moro with my car so it sounds like free food and free beer tomoro night! Sorted!
Catch you l8er guys.
Darth Tine posted 10/11/03 7:23 PM
Young. We're all really young. I think that you're the oldest one who comes here. You're what? 21 to 22? DDD's the youngest at a miserable 15 years old. Then it's ILYK at 16, and me at 17. Ok thats not true, ILYK is three months older than me. but don't you think I should be the older one? I'm more mature. ; ) Da Wookie's, ummmm, 18? Soon to be 19. and Derris (who doesn't really come anymore because he's an important "working man") is 20. Are you feeling the age old man? : ) You should, 21-22 is old, you must be getting really decrepit. And any way, more of that British slang, what does sorted mean?
Dark Death dude posted 10/13/03 7:48 PM
15 is the age of happiness and delight. Not only can I start driving, but I get to sit around all day! Yippee!
Derris posted 10/14/03 6:20 AM
I might start showing up more, now that you guys have a story time up again.
Since GMA is no longer around, I might have to make myself the quintessential Imperial.
No Name posted 10/16/03 1:14 PM
21. Not Yet.
I'm 19 mate. 20 in Feb.
And that's a little scarey. What gave you the idea I was 21-22?
I've just started uni after a year out.
I think I have to dissagree with you there DDD. 18-19 has to be the right age to be. I think 19, cause you're not 18 anymore and you're not quite 20. It's that great age where you can litterally do anything!
Though I'm sure I'll be doing the same stuff when I'm 20 aswell.
And I have 10-13 hrs of lectures a week, with maybe a couple of practicals and seminars. And you're stuck in school, I remember those days.
So Deris You would now seem to be the oldest again - now I've demoted myself, why'd I do that? I could have had some fun!?-.
Sorted basically means, I'm sorted out! Just an abreviation I guess. I was sorted out that night with free beer and free - silver service!!! Wow!! - food cause my dad was up here and took me out for a meal. Very nice it was too!
Well, I'll be back later, have to go catch another lecture and then a 3hour practical!! ARGH!!!! Pain!!
Darth Tine posted 10/16/03 8:23 PM
I don't know, I guess I thought that you had said that you were that old. oops. oh well, your still older than me anyway. I think DDDs still got you on the best life though. He really does just sit around all day. He's home schooled, as in, he just does school at home instead of going to a high school os something. Here's his life...Wake up at 8, sit around till 9, do 1 or at the most 2 hours of school, sit around till lunch, eat lunch, practice driving with Dad if he's home, do a few household chores, sit around at the computer till supper, eat supper watch TV. Go to sleep. I'm so jealous.
No Name posted 10/20/03 9:34 PM
That really does sound like an easy life. Ah well hey. Uni's not so bad.
So are you and DDD related? It was the 'dad' but that caught my attention.
Well catch you later guys, done all my work on the cpu for now.
Gunna go bak to my room and do some work up there.
Later.
Dark Death Dude posted 10/21/03 4:21 AM
Have fun! By the way, the CPU is actually just the Central Proccesing Unit. The computer itself is called the PC. (Personal Computer)
And DT, sometimes I do 2 and 1/2 HOURS of school. I hope you guys(and gals) feel sorry for me now.
Darth Tine posted 10/24/03 0:02 AM
Shut up DDD. And yeah, we're related. Derris, Da wookie, and DDD are all my brothers. How about you? got any siblings?

Yeah I have a little sister..well not so little nemore...she's 16 nearly 17...jeeze scarey!
So do you guys not all live at home together then?
I had my first exam today. 15% of the module marks...so over all it is 2.5% of my end of year grade! Joy!!
I hate multiple choice!!!
btw...nitwit is a great word.
Yeah I know that cpu is the central processing unit...I don't know why but I tend to use it to refer to computers...rolls off the tongue better than PC I guess.
Well must go. Have done some revision for my next exam on friday and now I really need to eat.
it's 21.30 and I haven't had any dinner yet!! Believe me this is a bad thing!! Just ask Aims how much i eat!
I think I must be the skinniest hungry man around!!It rules!! haha!!

Darth Tine posted 11/12/03 11:27 PM
21.30? What is that? Military time? Oh yeah, you're sorta in the military right? And, no, we all live in the same house except the eldest, Mike, who doesn't come here. Don't ask why we all still come here if we can just talk at home.. Just losers I guess. This way I don't have to look at my brothers when I talk to them. :) Ha! Kidding! They aren't that ugly, yet. Good luck on your exams! I can't see why you think that multiple choice is so bad. It's the short answer and essay part that kills me.

"18-19 has to be the right age to be. I think 19, cause you're not 18 anymore and you're not quite 20."
And I think I know why NN uses CPU. It's an acronym: ComPUter
So yeah. I'm sitting in math class paying absolutly no attention to the instructor. We just started geometry today. The class got to pick between...........got to go.
