Author Topic:   Shelf life of a keg?
Matt posted 6/21/04 4:12 AM
Hello all, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Several months ago, my friend purchased a full keg of Yuengling. Unfortunately, certain circumstances prevented us from even opening the keg. It was forgotten, and kept tucked away. It was brought to my attention that the keg was still in his possession, and now we're wondering if it’s possible that the beer may still be drinkable. It seems like a terrible waste if we just had to get rid of it. Mind you, the keg was completely unopened and kept in a storage area that never went above room temperature. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I'd imagine it will be fine if it was unopened, but if you open it and it's flat you can rebottle it with approx 1 teaspoon of sugar per 750 ml bottle and store it for 2-4 weeks, we have done this many times with left overs from kegs, never a whole keg though so you'll need plenty of bottles, these are usually availble at home brew shops, or you can scrounge around the neihgbourhood, hope this helps,
