Now that the reunion is over and done with will the website be updated more regularly?
A Curious Reader posted 9/22/03 4:33 PM
I found the site to be a source of information for what the alumni association was planning but since the reunion there has been almost no updating other than to advertise a former alumni's band playing locally.
Has there been that big a loss in interest by the alumni association? One certainly has to hope not.
A Curious Reader posted 9/28/03 2:23 PM
One has to wonder if the BSS Alumni group and the webmaster for this site have lost interest. There have been no meeting updates and what is being done with the Trust Fund and the money that was raised at the reunion?

Curious,
Give it a rest !

When is the next General meeting and when will the election of the new board of directors be held?

The next general membership meeting is on Wed., Nov. 26 when the election will be held. More info. to come.

well it certainly doesn't look like anyone is interested in updating this site with up to date information. Last posting said that there was going to be an election but nothing ever appeared. Hope that those running things realize that as an incorperated non-profit group they may be required by Government regulations to publish notification of the meeting in a local newspaper of the General meeting for the purpose of electing a new executive.

The BSSAA has had a very trying year. The new executive is currrently preparing the 2004 business plan. They are volunteers and would like some time with their families during the holiday season. Time taken away during 2003 to prepare for the Reunion. Updates are only required when there are items that need updating. Most of the BSSAA benefits will be through email between old friends or on the Forum.

I think in reality this site has died. Few people are posting on the Discussion board and hardly anyone is signing your guest book.
Those that have choosen not to pay the annual fee to be members are now being left out in the cold as to what is happening.
Mash posted 1/16/04 8:32 PM
Thank you all for doing the best you can as volunteers. I visit this site regularly and am looking forward to photos and stories on the reunion, which I unfortunately didn't attend.
PS: Curious, are you from the Classmates website or something? Is it bothering you that alumni get valuable info about our school for free? Or do you just not have a life?
A Curious Reader posted 1/17/04 4:19 AM
Sure hope you aren't holding your breath waiting for the pictures and stories to appear on the site. It's been 5 months since the reunion. Seen any thing? Nope. Guess you aren't a paying member or you would know that they charge almost as much as Classmates but provide very little in return.
A Curious Reader posted 2/29/04 0:59 AM
Well over 6 weeks from my last post and there has not been any updates of any kind anywhere on this site. BSSAA has become a thing of the past. Only here to fill the egos of a few to create something which they had no ambition to continue after the reunion.
an alumni posted 3/1/04 10:23 PM
curious, did you even go to bss? Give it a rest, If you have time to count off the weeks between updates why dont you do something with the association
A Curious Reader posted 3/4/04 5:08 AM
How can anyone do anything with the alumni association when they don't even post updates of the meetings? The last update of the site was April 4 2003. Who even knows who the Executive is anymore? Maybe they should have read the Ontario Incorporation Act for Non-profit organizations. There are requirements for notifying memebers which they did not even come close to meeting. You suggest that I should help the association. Post the meeting dates for everyone to see and where they are meeting. Certainly isn't at the bowling alley. Besides, they aren't even returning messages that have been left on the answering machine at the number and extention they have posted.
Oh and by the way, what is you position with the Alumni?

oh and one last thing, if it wasn't for you and I this site would be dead. No one else seems interested in it anymore.

I check this website periodically to see if there have been any pictures of the reunion added, or if the election results are posted, or if there are meeting announcements, and in part agree with "A Curious Reader" on the frustration of not seeing any movement. I would like to be able to purchase old yearbooks, a cd of photos from the reunion, or even just view the pictures taken at the reunion on the web. This is an opportunity for the association to make money, and I don't understand why this has not been done? I personally would like to be more involved and am not sure what there is to do so as the information on this site is not current.

Ann,
I'm sure that the answer is simply that most of the reunion volunteers are burned out after pulling off the reunion.
Most likely the reunion was a very stressful and trying endeavour that placed great demands on the organizers. These deals almost invariably have large work loads shared by too few workers.
Many of us assume that everything we would like to see / should see will somehow be delivered regardless of our own lack of contribution.
I'm sure the (remaining ?)organizers/alumini would really appreciate anyone willing to take on any unfulfilled projects.
If you really are able to help, go for it !
Curious, for what ever reason, just won't cut these people any slack; irregardless that they were all volunteers just trying their best.
Amen.

JD - thanks for the reply. I'm not trying to be critical - I did volunteer to help with the reunion and never got a response. I attended the reunion and had a good time. I have offered to help in any way I can, and continue to extend that offer. I certainly do not expect the burden to fall on any one person, or on the same small group of people. If this organization is burnt out (and deservedly so), it's time to make use of the new people that are offering to help so the organization keeps moving forward. Post the areas in which you need help, provide a feedback mechanism where interested persons can offer their help and CALL THEM so the work actually gets done. Thanks again for your response.
JD posted 3/19/04 0:08 AM
No problem Ann - you were most gracious in your reply.
Sounds like you have certainly made enough effort to offer assistance. Who knows - maybe there isn't enough enthusiasm left to bother taking you up on your offer.
I'm glad to hear you went and enjoyed yourself. I think most of us old "people" have conceded life away - nobody is interested in doing anything anymore.

I have to agree with some of the comments made regarding updating this site or rather the lack of updates. Did the election take place? if so who are the new officers. What was done with the extra money raised at the reunion? any pictures from the reunion. Before anyone reminds me I know that everyone is a volunteer, but I believe a commitment is made when volunteering and if you can't live up to that commitment do not volunteer...
S. Banks posted 10/5/04 5:30 PM
Didn't make the reunion (out of country) but would have loved to. I would have to agree that waiting for pics and details about who made it and how much fun it was would be greatly appreciated. Alumni Staff members do your best!!
SkYdIvEr posted 5/1/06 11:02 PM
I was just reading through the replies and it's nice to see that "curious" has ceased the incesant replies. However, I just wanted to point out to JD that "irregardless" is a double negative (sorry don't mean to offend, I just have a thing with bad grammer) my appologies. I am an alumni of BSS just to put those who read this mind's at rest, and I would like to see pictures up from the reunion. I have not seen any movement on this site in a good long time, though I do understand that the administrators of this site are, in fact, just volunteers so I do understand the time constraints. For anyone that reads these posts and has a negative comment to make about the site, think of this before you comment; would you like it if someone criticized your hard work that you did 'just because'? I didn't think so. So yes I agree, cut them some slack, but with that said, some updates would be nice sometime in the near future :-) ...
Take Care,
SkYdIvEr

Hey Skydiver, you made a few mistakes. "Incessant", "grammar", and "appologies" were all spelled incorrectly!. And the singular of alumnus is alumni. But it is good to see some activity on the site for a change.
an alumni posted 9/7/06 5:55 PM
its real nice to see some regular conversation posted and not a lot of "curious " activity
