First of all, I am a fish when it comes to playing chess (although I have had my moments), but I have been a chess journalist for over 30 years and I know the history and literature of the game as well as any Master. I have been a fan of the Australian IM Gary Lane for many years. he does a column at Chess Cafe that is well worth a look. Gary has a pleasant personality and a good writing style and he writes books that can help average players improve. His books are interesting and instructive. Recently on one of my sojourns to a local bookstore, I picked up Gary's "Improve Your Chess In 7 Days" and it is a book worth the money for the majority of us who are fish. Check it out !! And by the way it cannot hurt me to read it either although I haven't improved in almost 40 years. :-) http://ShadowofDiogenes.blogs.com/shadow/ Eclectic with Poetry |
