Merciless Coffee bulldozed Banks 5-1 under heavy rain By Michael Samson The saying goes “revenge is sweet when taken cold” but for Ethiopian coffee who miserably failed to retain its knock out championship on Easter day it only took 48 hours to gobble the sweet revenge. It is not just a simple revenge but Al-Capone’s style in five folds. Despite the heavy rain on Wednesday evening, Coffee’s supporters flocked to the stadium not believing their team has really let them down. Others came to see their rivals burial. Spear headed by Berhanu Kasim, the wounded league leaders gave no time to celebration to the tired Ethiopian Banks. Even Banks opener at the earliest of the match couldn’t flinch their determination to take back their pride snatched away on Sunday. Hussein Seman got the equalizer followed by Yonas’ header before half time. After 2-1 on the break, Banks were expected to return from the dressing room with a strategic change from Seyoum Abate the head coach. Rather the change came from Tilahun Mengesha sending his squad for an all out attack and aggressive midfield play to control all passes. Theodros’ uncompromising tackles kept the usually hard-core Banks midfielders silent. Berhanu rattled the defensive line of the new knock out champions to open space and create chances for the count. Khalid Mohammed scored the third to be followed by the spectacular long shot from Ashenfi Girma. Andargachew hammered in the final nail before the coffin lowered down. The fans went wild and chanted what a great side Ethiopian Coffee is. ‘We are Lions that never let our guards down…’ echoed the stadium. |
