om: John Morga (jmorga@telephonics.com) Subject: Grusin: "Jack's Theme" Newsgroups: rec.music.makers.jazz 2002-08-12 From The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), the busy studio cut made it to the soundtrack, but the solo piece was abandoned from anything published. Anyone know if it has ever been charted? I rented the movie (tape) and hooked up my old VHS deck to a cassette deck. I dumped the one scene to audio (about 50 minutes into the film) and have been just playing be ear. There's lots of minor7b5, half-diminished kind of stuff or minor 6ths with the 6 on the left hand but the going is slow. Any help is appreciated. thanks! Originally posted to THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS MESSAGE BOARD 7:08 am Friday January 25, 2002 Hi there, This is an appeal to any talented pianists out there who can play by ear (ie. not me!). I'm hooked on that piano solo that Jack plays on his own in the hotel ballroom, secretly watched by Suzie (based around sequence Fm7, Bb/C - I think that's right). I know the sheet music isn't available but I'm hoping to find someone who can help me get a transcription somehow. |

Hello NewsGroup .... As I am a big fan of Dave Grusin and his music, I wondered if there is any sheet music of his arrangements ... I really like "Making Whoopee" of the "Fabulous Baker Boys" soundtrack and would like to transcribe it if nobody has done it before ... Any help is appreciated ... :-) Thank you in advance, Hubert http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=rec.music.makers.piano Originally posted to the above newsgroup |

All, I'm hooked on that piano solo, too. Though I'm no pianist. Does anyone know more information about it, like who's the composer, player and any other pianist playing similar stuff? |

If anyone is interested, I have some of the chords of "Jack's Theme" figured out. It's taking a lot of my time, since the chords are kind of clustered and difficult. Just contact me. |

I have transcribed quite alot of Dave grusin stuff. I have done "jack's theme" from the bar, which is a trio version of the solo Hotel scene and have done "Makin' Whoppee". Drop me a line if still interested. |
