The old region 1 dvd of Baker Boys (deleted for some time now) was an unsatisfactory package, incorporating only the trailer and an audio commentary by the cinematographer.
Overseas editions, of course, weren't much better. Although lucky buyers were treated to a handful of promotional behind-the-scenes featurettes, unfortunately they missed out on the Michael Ballhaus commentary!
Then of course, there was the audio commentary for the film that Jeff Bridges mentioned recording with his brother, which hasn't shown up anywhere at all!
Thankfully MGM DVD have finally solved the problem of numerous DVD editions of Baker Boys with their new 2007 resissue.
It includes the actual film and... absolutely nothing else. No audio commentaries. No trailers. No Featurettes.
That has finally sorted out the whole mess, and the good people at MGM DVD should be congratulated for the enormous amount of effort they've put into this release.
Many many thanks.

I think your sarcasm is misplaced and you must have reviewed a promo copy that came without any of the extras by mistake.
No DVD company is going to reissue a film WITHOUT the extras they included first time around (in fact they usually add more extras to make people who bought the film the first time buy it again).
Anyway, Jeff actually mentioned recording the audio commentary on his website a few months ago, so that MUST be on there!

What Fox released does not include any extras. It's not a promo DVD, but the actual street copy as I received it ahead of time in the form that it is now, from a Fox publicist to review.

I'm betting that Fox released a version without any extras just to see how it sells before they go any further with a potential "special edition." It tees me off, especially since this is a film that deserves more on a U.S. DVD release besides the Michael Ballhaus commentary from the previous release.

They would know from the previous US DVD release what general sales would be.
And the only people who would buy it again are the hardcore fans - and they're not going to buy this new version because it doesn't contain anything new.
So this new plain vanilla release won't tell them anything from a sales or marketing point of view.
The lack of extras could be down to cost but even that seems unlikely. I can't see either the Bridges brothers nor Michael Ballhaus charging large sums of money for their audio commentaries, so why not put them on?
And surely the copyright to the trailer and the short promo featurettes that are on the UK DVD are owned by 20TH Century Fox and wouldn't cost them anything to include.

I can understand them not wanting to spend the money producing a 5.1 mix (assuming enough of the original soundtrack elements have survived to even make this possible) but not including stuff they already have lying around seems bizarre.
A big disappointment.

Just got this version from Netflix. I couldn't be more disappointed. I was really excited to see Jeff's post on his site and to receive a DVD w/o even the original commentary track (which I've never tracked down) must be a crime somewhere.
