I know I don't just speak for my own team when I bring this up and really don't know how it can be changed but thought I would bring it up anyways. We have a really hard time getting girls to play and we really try hard. We had 9 but lose some soon and are lucky if we get 3 to every game. I think it us un fair to have to drive out to games and find out sometimes u have to forfiet the game cause 2 girls only came out. I know we are not the only team having a hard time getting enough girls out to each game. I think 4 girls might even be a bit much and know that is how co ed softball is but in our league it's just really hard for some reason to get 4 out for every game. Anyways if other teams are having this prob as well feel free to respond...I have tried recruiting for a lot of diff churches and still can't get girls to play for the summer.

I agree with Matt. Sometimes its frusterating knowing that just because a couple of girls didn't show up you cant have a good game of ball. Its ridiculous especially after paying the money to play, who really cares about how many girls you have. Lets drop the rule and just have the game focus on having some fun and playing some ball

I would also say that the biggest reason most the old teams who use to be in this league are no longer in it is because they could never get enough girls out for the summer. Maybe something could be looked at like how many show up thats what u play with. I couldn't care less if we had to play all guy teams because as it is right now more churches could have teams and don't and it's mostly an all guys league now anyways!

Have u asked Beth 2 they have a hole lot of players we played them the had at least 6 i think.
When every one shows up to our games the girls Out number ur guys for some reason.
I think theres a couple of teams like that.

The issue of a minimum number of girls has been brought up before and has been voted down each time. Most coachs don't feel the league would become "more fun" but "more competitive" and that's not the reason for this league. Matty you are welcome to bring this up at next years coachs meeting, but I recomend having "back up" girls (mother's of players on the team tend to work) that you can call when you know you're going to be short. You only have to get to 3 girls to play.

I think it is amazing that it is a co-ed league, but restiction are silly. If this isn't a competative league - then why is a game forfeit because girls could'nt come. A huge percent of the females in the league on the teams I have played for - play because of that. A lot of them don't even want to play. If it truly was a co-ed league - and equal - it shouldn't how many of who show up, and there should be female coaches. If I showed up to play way out of Kingston and the team we were playing had no girls show - I would rather play them and lose then not play! Also, with finicky rules like this - I think that it should be brought to the whole league - not just a particular 10 or 11 guys. There are many very smart and fabulous ball players whop arent coaches who should have a chance have input.

You guys need to relax and just play the game. If you are concerned with not having enough girls, then you should ask your female (and all players for that matter) to call you at least 2 hours prior to a game to let you know if they will not be attending. This way you can inform your team and the coach of the other team if you do not have enough female players to play. The idea of dropping the minimum female players is a little ridiculous and would turn our league into something it shouldn't be. There are lots of men only leagues out there if that is what you want, but I don't think that dropping the female rule is a smart idea. This is a CHURCH league that is meant for fellowship and although we all like to compete, it is not the main reason we are out there.

I agree with Blake.
The number of girls thing is tied to competition, but also to being a family league.
I'm playing in an SPN (Slo-Pitch Nationals) tournament this weekend, which is very competitive, and they require a lineup of 5 gals and 5 guys! So more gals doesn't necessarily equal less competitive... But if we said teams could play 10 (maybe big, powerhitting, slick fielding) guys, then if one team for whatever reason wanted to do that to win, all the other teams would find that they had no chance to be competitive at all with those guys. That would put pressure on the other teams to "cut" their women, and we could end up with a league of 90%+ guys. I would hate that!
I don't know of any other three-pitch league that doesn't require women on the team, and I can list a bunch of good reasons for it. Three-pitch seems to be a uniquely co-ed thing. Maybe that's part of why I love it!
While I know that it can be hard to get four gals to every game for some teams, it's part of the game. Coaches need to recruit diligently to make sure their roster is filled (including making sure enough people will be available for the tournament, early enough to do something about it.)
About defaults - It's really really important for coaches to keep track of their team so they know when they aren't going to have enough, and call the other coach in time to save everybody's time and gas. Set the expectation with your team that just not showing up is *not acceptable*.
About inclusion in the rules discussions - The constitution of the league states that every team gets one vote on that stuff during pre-season discussion. Every player in the league has input through their coach (or other team rep at the meeting where we vote.)
League meetings are open, so if a team feels strongly about some issue they are welcome to show up in force and talk about it. But one good reason for "one team, one vote" is that it would be completely unfair for a team to bring 20 people to a league meeting unannounced, just so they could outvote all of the other teams combined and change everything to suit their team. The process we have includes all teams equally, and includes all players through input to their coach (and the opportunity to show up and speak their piece if they want to.)
Hey, I like girls! I'd think most guys would agree... ;) And I love girls who play ball, and I have a lot more fun when guys and girls are playing.
Put a bunch of guys together on their own doing something competitive, and things can get ugly - Having both genders involved makes everyone think a little more about how dumb they are going to look, before they start something.
And "family league" = men and women, older and younger. Personally, I'd hate to see that change in KDCSL.

hey thanx for all the responses to my first post. I agree that girls playing does make the league a lot of fun to play in, and don't want it to turn into an all guys league. I was more stating how hard it is to always get 4 girls out for the summer, but thanx for all the responses.

Hey guys,
I understand your frustration, but 4 girls is at LEAST the amount most 3 pitch leagues use. If the rule were to be dropped (which it won't be) I can't see allowing rovers anymore or anything like that, it would be ridiculous. I really think it is important to have your players understand that if they cannot make it to a game that they contact you (the coach) ASAP and it is unacceptable to just not show up to a game.
The players on my team understand that and we don't have a problem anymore.

ummm... As a girl, this whole topic is kind of sucky. I agree that there are not a whole lot of girls committed to playing every game, every year. And yes, it is sometimes hard to get your needed 4 girls to every game. But make it an all guys league??? Are you kidding? So the girls who do want to play, can't? Or there will be so few girls, that the ones who do want to play would likely feel too awkward playing with all (or mostly) guys.
As a regular player for about 6 years (wow....), and as a girl, I get frustrated too at the lack of dedication from SOME girls. But, I do think it is the team's (not just the coach's) responsibility to make sure you have enough players and to make sure the girls who do come, feel valuable as part of you team. Feeling needed = happy = fun = want to play baseball.. Hooray! And yes, this is a christian, family league and it's worked pretty well for many years, so let's just suck it up. ( I mean that in the nicest way possible haha... )
This topic coming up in the first place probably will not make any girl want to commit her time, especially if she's already on the fence about it.
Be nice to your girls! You do need us!:)

Thanks Jenny! I totally agree - Girls who are committed to playing are awesome, but it's up to us guys to let them know that!

Good day, my wife and I are looking for a team to play ball with. My wife and belong to the Catholic church on base. We were just posted in from Petawawa. I have played for mens tournament and league teams for about 10-12 yrs and my wife has been playing on a womens team for the past 4 yrs. We both agree the most fun we ever had was on our mixed sunday night league. Since being posted down here we have been unsuccessful in finding a place to play. If anyone has a spot on their team for us or another league they know of if yours are full please call or e-mail us. Thank-you kindly. Joe and Kim
