My father is hospitalized right now due to a bedsore. At first they did a debridement procedure, now they are saying they want him to have a colostomy as well. Looking for various treatment options for bedsores, of an agressive nature since he has MRSA. This bedsore is testing as staff infection. I fear a bedsore / infection will cause his death unless we can get very aggressive with treatment options. He has diabetes as well, and is now also on dialysis. This is all the result of back surgery in February. He recovered fairly well, but went to a skilled nursing center for re-hab where he developed an infection in his spine which they did nothing about. The infection ran rampant throughout his body, nearly killing him. Two surgeries later to tackle the life threatening infection, he's left without the use of his legs or kidneys, and riddled with these infections, and has now developed this bed sore. Please reply if you have any information to offer.

I've dealt with a similar situation. You need to make sure get moving around, if not able to move, someone else needs to rotate him on a regular basis. Take a look at an alternating pressure mattress. It's a mattress that has air chambers that move air between the chambers essentially moving the body. Also consider the diet. Is he getting enough protein. There's a liquid protein called Pro-Stat that I have had sucess with. Also make sure he gets some air time.
I've been getting Pro-Stat from CWI Medical.
Good Luck

You should look into a good alternating pressure relief cushion system. There is a company called Aquila that makes such a cushion system and they have documentation of their cushion healing pressure sores, even stage 4 very quickly. One essential characteristic of an effective cushion is that it has to prevent capillary occlusion. This ensures adequate circulation to tissue under compression. You really need to try this proven product and see how it can improve the condition of a decubitus ulcer. They have a trial program, I think the only company to offer one, because this cushion system really works. Their website address is www.aquilacorp.com. Call them. They are very helful and understanding.
