Author Topic:   Restoration Of new DVD by DW team

Just read the note on the DVD page about the DW team's restoration and wondered what the full story with this was? Were they really offended that you quoted technical details and why isn't there anything on their site?

To be honest Seawolf there's no really juicy story here and to begin with I suspect it was all a misunderstanding.
Once the material was removed at their request and apologies sent, we waited a few weeks and then left another message on the Restoration Team's board suggesting they may like to submit something but the posting was completely ignored.

The last post we left on their board (regarding some Doctor Who restoration) was done under the name nickname 'Northmoor Security' but apparently nicknames are frowned upon there (fair enough, their board their rules) and they curtly requested we post under our real name.
Our promise to do so in the future was posted under a humourous (non offensive) nickname merely to make light of the situation. They responded by deleting the ENTIRE thread.
I'm not sure what's going on but they do great restoration work, we've got the message, and we'll stay away from them in the future.

But once you left a message on their board didn't they actually check what you'd used on the EOD site before they asked you to take it down? Seems very odd.

It's all very sad isn't it. It's only by chance that I discovered that they wnated the article removed.. I just happened to visit their messageboard one day, shortly after it had been posted at northmoor and discovered this:

Sorry Matt,
Your intentions were good, I'm sure, but you really need to get explicit
permission before you reproduce comments - so people may not be happy about
this, see Trevor's comments below.
I think you need to take that section down and contact people first, please.
Steve

And as said above, all the wierdness happened.
:-(
It wasn't even technical "secret" info. Just some musings about the making of, and some info on what the prints actually were. shame really, as it is now the norm to provide this info on the dvd itself via "notes on restoration" in the special features menu.

The funny thing being the guy who complained, "Trevor", wasn't even somebody who was quoted, something Steve would have noticed at once if he'd bothered to spend 30 seconds clicking on our link and reading what we'd actually done.
Anyway, did as he asked and contacted Steve direct but no response. Ball back in their court but obviously they don't want to play.

I've just had to delete one particularly nasty message left here on this board directed at the Restoration Team.
Sorry to the poster, I understand you're upset at what happened to you, but this is not the place to get so personal.
We've had several emails detailing problems people have had with the Restoration Team and we can only say:
They do good work. Enjoy that work. Don't let any problems you've had communicating with them, or simply expressing a valid opinion on their forum, lessen your enjoyment of Doctor Who or Edge Of Darkness.
PS. I do drop in read their forum from time to time and notice that today - months after this incident - my IP had suddenly been banned! What is it with this team?

They're idiots at that team and certainly act as if they're above criticism. Don't worry about them. They probably think they actually "made" EOD instead of just transferring it to a DVD.

Hi, I really need some info on the restoration of this new dvd - if possible can it be posted here on the message board instead of the site maybe?
Northmor Security posted 8/19/06 1:23 PM
We've been specifically asked by them NOT to reproduce any of their comments on the restoration process.
You can contact the Restoration Team directly via their website if you want to try but I doubt you'll have much luck.
Sorry.

Do you still have a copy of the restoration information that was originally posted that you could send me privately? There's nothing on their website and they probably took it off there because you copied it and now nobody has it.

1) The Team DID NOT take the information off their site because I used it; they just had it posted on their message board which does not store older posts online.
2) I can NOT pass a copy of the information onto you privately. Contact them drectly.
