On the back of the DVD box (and I think on the BBC Cult site) it says that the events of EOD may also be the endgame of a clash between two secret medieval societies...Now I don't own the series and have only seen it twice but I am *so* missing the point where this comes up. All I can think of is when Jedburgh is in the Cold War bunker before going to the hot cell and says he wants the American atomic mogul to get a comeuppance because his ancestors killed Jedburgh's ancestors...but that's a pretty weak connection. What am I missing???

There's an inference that Grogan is a Teutonic Knight. It's only brief, but it ties into Jedburgh's belief that he's always been on the side of good. Jedburgh has an undeniable belief in God. He 'may not be a golfer, he may not even be a republican, but he sure as hell isn't a member of Socialist Advance' leads one to think that Jedburgh may be a Knights Templar or Knight of St John.

Blimey, that seems a bit of a tucked-away reference...I always took that spiel on Jedburgh's part as a bit tongue in cheek...Okay, thanks for the answer. G.

Yes. That secret society reference is dim. You should, however, read Troy Kennedy Martin's (the script writer) "Introduction" on the Northmoor webpage. He tells about his ideas, and actually says that they can't be obvious for the watcher. He says Crogan is a templar and Jedburg a Teutonic knight.

I think that this really reflects TKM's mistrust of authority figures and the fact that the politicians, spooks and police in EOD all operate like secret societies - if you think about it, all the authority figures in EOD are corrupt in one way or another. The outcasts or oddballs like Craven, Jedburgh, Clemmie, Emma are the goodies. The most dubious figures however would have to be Harcourt & Pendleton, who, as they say, try to run with the fox and hunt with the hounds
