By now you've heard Hollywood have finally got their hands on Edge Of Darkness. We've already heard the action is being transferred from the UK to the US, but how bad can they stuff it up? My top 10 fears; 01. One of the Baldwin brothers will end up playing Ronald Craven. 02. The GAIA group who break into Northmoor will turn out to be terrorists working for some middle eastern religious fanatics. 03. Jim Carey will play the oddball CIA agent Darius Jedburgh. Critics will carry on about what a "departure" this is for Carey and debate whether he'll win an Oscar. 04. Britney Spears will play the adorable Emma Craven. 05. A long sequence will be added to explain why Emma, who died early on, keeps reappearing throughout the film. 06. Willie Nelson's song will be dumped for something by the Backstreet Boys. 07. Plutonium is old news and will be replaced with Anthrax. 08. The final shot of black flowers will be replaced with a shot of the American flag fluttering in the breeze. 09. Craven and Jedburgh will escape from Northmoor via an elaborately executed car chase. 10. Emma will return at the end, the twist being she was "alive all along". http://fabulousbakers.tripod.com/edge/film.html Edge Of Darkness set for the big screen |

It will be total bollocks then. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=uk.rec.subterranea Originally posted to the above newsgroup |

Subject: Re: Edge of Darkness - to be major film! Newsgroups: uk.rec.subterranea Date: 2002-01-19 15:57:54 PST I fear you're be right. They'll all have broad american accents except Jedburgh, of course, who'll be a "cheeky cockney sparrah", Northmoor will be in Area 51 and contain frozen alien bodies. Re: Edge of Darkness - to be major film! Newsgroups: uk.rec.subterranea Date: 2002-01-21 07:57:41 PST http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/tv/edge/ Bit of a cheek, the BBC having a page on their web site, considering the way they've let a 3rd party distributor cobble together a ham-fisted DVD release. Possible film scenario - US government discovers that the Taleban have a secret nuclear reprocessing plant hidden in an abandoned coal mine. Grieving for the los of his daughter Emma (played by Halle Berry), Craven (played by Morgan Freeman) teams up with renegade golf playing CIA agent Jedburgh (played by Arnold Schwartzenegger). If there is going to be a film remake, that will put paid to ANY chance of a properly remastered DVD release, with extras and everything. Grrr! Halmyre (now in peeved mode) |

There should not be another Edge of Darkness at all. The Hollywood move of remaking only proves that the original is classic. |

Emma's ghost will have magical powers that heal her father of his radiation/anthrax sickness (can't have a depressing ending these days). |

The Hollywood remake of THE SINGING DETECTIVE hardly bodes well for the quality of their EOD remake. |
