I will soon be adding a list of sources and information about this topic, in the meantime here are some tips and suggestions for my Muslim visitors: 1. L.D. Schrieber Cheese Company: No shortening, lard, gelatin or lecithin is Halal. Only Cow products are HALAL. 2. Burger King Corporation: Shortening used in from swine = HARAM Lard is used in buns and apple pie = HARAM Lecithin is used in buns = HARAM Because you are not sure. Shakes = HALAL 3. General Goods: Lard is used on Swan Down Cake mixes. Gelatin (from collagen-bearing tissues of any animal) is used in many products including Jell-O Brad Gelatin Desert = HARAM 4. Knox Gelatin Inc.: Knox Gelatin is prepared from the protein collagen, which is extracted from either beef (bones and skin) or PORK (SKINS) = HARAM 5. American Lecithin Company: Our lecithin is derived from soybeans and is sold under the trade name Alcoles = HALAL 6. Nestle: A list was sent to MSA confirming that their products do not contain any animal by-product. Lecithin used in their products is derived from Soybeans = HALAL 7. General Mills Inc.: Shortening similar to lard is used, also Soya lecithin is used = HARAM (Because it does not say Soya or lard and you don't know so it is better to avoid.) 8. Quaker Oats: Soybean lecithin is used. Shortening used is from swine. Some of the products are MASA Trigo, Flako pie crust and cup cake mix. http://www.tasteofpakistan.com/recipes Thousands of Delicious Pakistani Recipes |

since all animals and plants are created by almightly, it does not matter whether halal or haram, there can be no such thing so everyone can eat anything |

sorry to say some of your recipes says ingredients like ground pork in hot and sour soup.Maybe you can work on your recipe details more than discussing Halal and Haraam details and confusing the already confused Muslim nation. |

Saadia, I do not mean to be diparaging but I have just had a look at the hot and sour soup recipe and it does not contain pork. I do think that Fauzia has mad an outstanding effort with her website and that if you do not like the contents or have anything nice to say simply do not visit! I am also firmly of the opinion that as a muslim one should exercise a certain amount of common sense and if a recipes does mention pork or other non haram foods simply omit or substitue for a more suitable ingredient. |

ok here is the recipe posted !copied directly from the site Can you see the ground pork in capital letters ?? Of course I really appreciate the site and have contributed once but seriously the muslim nation is too occupied in discussing details of haraam halal and in that process just overlook the more imp things That was my point ! 1) Cover the mushrooms in a small bowl with warm water. Let them soak for 30 minutes to soften. 2) Strain mushroom liquid and reserve. Cut the mushrooms into 1/4-inch slices; set aside. 3) Slice bean curd and bamboo shoots into 1/4inch slices and set aside. 4) Place the chicken stock in a large pot. Add the salt, soy sauce, mushroom liquid, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and GROUND PORK. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer soup for 3 minutes. 5) Add the white pepper, vinegar, and bean curd. Return soup to a boil. 6) Give the cornstarch mixture a stir, then add to soup, followed by the beaten egg, while stirring gently. Remove from heat. 7) Add the sesame oil and sprinkle soup with green onions to serve. |
