RIO DE JANEIRO, July 14 - The Canadian Catherine Pendrel received the first gold-medal of the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 after she won the women mountain bike cycling competition at Outeiro Hill this Saturday morning, 14 July. The victory came in a time of one hour 46 minutes six seconds. “It feels great to be the first medal of the Games”, said Pendrel. The American Mary McConneloug, who managed to overtake Pendrel during the competiton, got the silver-medal, finishing in 1:47:44 and the Mexican Laura Morfin got bronze. Canada got another medal this Saturday with Tanya Hunks. Hunks picked-up the bronze in the women’s 10-kilometre open water swimming event.
