RIO DE JANEIRO, July 14 - The United States, a country with fair tradition in artistic gymnastics conquered the gold medal in the women’s teams competition of RIO 2007, held on Saturday, July 14, at the Multipurpose Arena. For the sixth time in the seven last editions of the Games, the American are top. The USA scored 243,225 points.
The United States team, constituted byr Rebecca Bross, Ivana Hong, Shawn Johnson, Anastasia Liukin, Samantha Peszek e Amber Trani, had the best performance in three out of the four apparatus (beam, horse vaulting and uneven bars), remaining behind Brazil only in the solo.
Having the support of the fans, the Brazilian team improved their performance by comparison with Santo Domingo, when they were bronze and conquered the silver medal scoring 236,725. Mexico was the third (223,625).
For Brazil, Jade Barbosa, Khiuani Dias, Daiane dos Santos, Daniele Hypólito, Ana Silva and Laís Souza won the medal.
Mexico was the biggest surprise and took Canada’a third place. The Mexican team was represented by Maricela Cantu, Yeny Ibarra, Cinthia Duarth, Yesenia Estrada, Erika Garcia and Elsa Blancas.
Canada, former Pan Am runner-up, finished fourth this time(with only 0,50 points behind Mexico), followed by Cuba, Argentina and Puerto Rico.
