RIO DE JANEIRO, July 16 - In the opening match of the Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament, Brazilians Two-time World champions Juliana and Larissa beat the USA team duo formed by Brooke Hanson and Angie Akers 2 - 0 (21/10 e 21/16), in 39 minutes, this Monday at the Copacabana Arena. After the match, Larissa celebrated the fact they both overcame their exhaustion. They arrived from Berlin, Germany, on Sunday morning. “ The trip was tiresome, but we trained on Sunday anyway. I think it was the first time we enjoyed training that much. Along the match, I told Juliana we had to take the lead and give them no chance. It is crucial to have a good debut. Even being tired, we gave 80 percent of our game”, celebrated Larissa, from the state of Espírito Santo. Also valid for group E, the Salvadorans Ivonne Soler and Laura Molina needed 43 minutes to win over the Puerto Ricans Yamileska Yantin and Negron Ruiz , 2-1 (21/13;14/21and15/9). The second day of the group will be played on Twesday, July 18. At 8:00PM Soler and Molina will face Hanson and Akers, while at 10:00PM Juliana and Larissa will play against Yantin and Ruiz. On group F, the Cubans Dalixia Fernadez and Tamara Larrea won over Heisell Guandique and Heidy Hostran from Nicarágua, 2-0 (21/6 and 21/9). The Ecadorians Karina Hernandez Torres and Mercedes Mena Gómez also won in this group: 2-0 (21/8and 21/9) over Nancy Joseph and Elke Phillp, from Trinidad and Tobago. This Twesday, July 18, Fernandez/Larrea will play against Joseph/Phillp and Mena/Hernandez will face Guandique/Hostran.
