There's one thing you have to give George W. Bush credit for: the man can lie, and with a straight face. The problem he faces is that fewer and fewer people in the United States believe him. One day after Donald Rumsfeld stated that the U.S. troops should be prepared to confront the Iraqi insurgency for up to the next 12 years, Bush goes on national television to try to convince the American people that they must support the continuation of his war policies. If the media had any guts, they would have ripped Bush's speech apart. On five separate occasions he invoked the September 11 attacks as the pretext for the war and occupation. There wasn't a single, solitary reference to Iraq's so-called weapons of mass destruction. Before the war, this was the core of the Bush/Cheney propaganda. "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction." - Vice President Dick Cheney, speech to VFW National Convention, August 26, 2002. Bush's motivation to justify his war policies on national television was not simply a desperate act to bolster sagging public opinion. Bush is actively trying to head off the growing movement for impeachment. His pre-war lies are being exposed by the Downing Street series of memos. Lying to Congress and the people is an impeachable offense. The fact is that more than 100,000 Iraqis and more than 1,700 U.S. soldiers have died as a consequence of these lies. Bush's illegal war of aggression is also a War Crime, a Crime Against Peace, and a Crime Against Humanity. Bush says: Give Me Your Children! Bush also took on a new role as the pitchman for war: that of "Recruiter-in-Chief." Bush, who was a gung-ho supporter of the Vietnam War - but used his wealth and power to avoid personal participation - shamelessly appealed to young people to sign up to become soldiers for his Iraq war, claiming glory and honor would await them. Bush has again tried to turn reality on its head, but let's use one of his banal generalities as a guide to action. Bush said tonight: "We know that if evil is not confronted it gains in strength and audacity." Exactly! Unless Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are impeached, the evil they represent will gain audacity and strength. Are we really going to stand for this? Take action., Support impeachment NOW! Last night Bush entered our living rooms to sell us his war. On September 24, 2005, a million people are going to his doorstep to make it clear that we aren't buying it. Thousands of people across the country are organizing to bring the call for impeachment to Washington with a massive protest at the White House. Help make this demonstration happen. |

Please all you idealists, get real. The very people who need to do the dirty work are in Bush's pocket. This empeachment thing is not knew, has been going on for months, perhaps years but until Bush does something to rile his base it is just tilting at windmills. Afer all, he hasn't committed any visible sins that could rile up the Christian right. |

Check this out Posted 06/20/05 10:22 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iraqi Lawmakers Call for Foreign Troops to Withdraw By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, BAGHDAD Iraqi lawmakers from across the political spectrum called for the withdrawal of foreign forces from their country in a letter released to the media June 19. The move comes as U.S. President George W. Bush is under increasing domestic pressure to set a timetable for the pullout of American forces in the face of an increasing death toll at the hands of insurgents. Eighty-two Shiite, Kurdish, Sunni Arab, Christian and communist deputies made the call in a letter sent by Falah Hassan Shanshal of the United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), the largest group in parliament, to speaker Hajem al-Hassani. Some of those who signed urged that a detailed timetable be established for the withdrawal. There are currently about 160,000 foreign troops in Iraq, including a 138,000-strong U.S. force, which has borne the brunt of attacks against coalition forces. In the letter, Shanshal said the 275-member parliament was the Iraqi people’s legitimate representative and guardian of their interests. ”We have asked in several sessions for occupation troops to withdraw,” the letter said. “Our request was ignored.” ”It is dangerous that the Iraqi government has asked the U.N. Security Council to prolong the stay of occupation forces without consulting representatives of the people who have the mandate for such a decision. ”Therefore we must reject the occupation’s legitimacy and renew our demand for these forces to withdraw,” the letter added. The U.N. Security Council agreed on May 31 to extend the mandate of multinational forces in Iraq “until the completion of the political process” following a request from the Iraqi government. ”Iraqi security forces have managed to break the back of terrorist groups and maintain security in the streets of Iraq, and have gained the trust of Iraqi citizens to arrive at their final goal, total sovereignty for Iraq.” |

Zogby poll taken this week post Fort Bragg speach said if the president lied about the reasons for going into Iraq 25% of Republicans might vote to impeach. The Dems hit around 59% on that question. This idea may nor be so far from possible after all. |

I'm sorry to say it but I stand opposed to impeachment. We would have to take down Dr. Doom along with him and then what, Dennis Hastert becomes president? does nybody know what an idiot he is? Some small time sleezy politician that makes Bush look like a bargain. What we need is a revamp of the line of succession or perhaps a plan for an emergency election should a whole administration need replacing. And can any sane person imagine being stuck with a heart attack waiting to happen evil old man like DICK Cheny. Talk about out of the frying pan into the fire. |

Democratic Party elected officials are failing to hold President Bush sufficiently responsible for betraying the trust of the American people, after the President used the 9/11 attacks to justify the administration's planned invasion and occupation of Iraq during his speech on Tuesday, June 28. "What the President told America in his speech wasn't grounds for cautious criticism -- it was grounds for impeachment," said Elena Everett, chair of the North Carolina Green Party and Co-chair of the Green Party's Peace Action Committee. "None of the Democratic leaders who criticized Mr. Bush are willing to admit that the enormity of his deception deserves impeachment. None of them are willing to demand a halt to the slaughter of Iraqi civilians and U.S. troops by ending the occupation." Democratic Party leaders avoided criticism of the war itself, and instead focused on Mr. Bush's military strategy and leadership style. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), House minority leader, said, "The president missed an opportunity tonight for straight talk to the American people." Sen. Ted Kennedy (Mass.) called the President's Iraq policy "adrift." A statement by Democratic Chief Deputy Whip Diane DeGette (CO) accused the Bush Administration of "poor planning." Sen. Joe Biden (DE) said, "I really do think [the war is] winnable, but you've got to keep the American people following with you. That's why I urged them to give the speech." While some noted the disconnect between 9/11 and the Iraq war, none of the Democratic leaders quoted mentioned the Downing Street Memo, which documents the administration's intention in mid 2002 to launch a military invasion while President Bush called such an action a "last resort." All support continued military occupation, despite indications that the U.S. military presence will be longterm, will lead to further strife and massive casualties, and cannot guarantee democracy in Iraq. Greens have called the President's actions and statements grounds for Impeachment, and have demanded an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. "The invasion made the world less, not more secure from terrorism," said Rebecca Rotzler, Co-chair of the Peace Action Committee and Deputy Mayor, Village of New Paltz, NY. "The only connection between the war on Iraq and the war on terror is that, by invading Iraq -- where al-Qaeda had zero or negligible presence before the invasion -- President Bush opened up Iraq to al-Qaeda, which is exploiting the chaos there and using Iraq as a training camp." "In his June 28 address, despite earlier admissions that there was no connection between Iraq and the 9/11 attacks, President Bush cynically and dishonestly tried to exploit fears of terrorism as a justification for the war and continued occupation of Iraq. Such willful deception is consistent with the revelation of the Downing Street Memo that intelligence needed to be 'fixed' to justify the invasion. As long as Democrats -- except for a few like Rep. John Conyers [Mich.], who held a hearing on the Downing Street Memo -- treat the Administration's actions as a mere policy or strategy disagreement and a matter of insufficient planning, we hold the Democratic Party as responsible as Republicans for the mounting death and mayhem in Iraq and lawlessness of the Bush White House," said Ms. Rotzler. His actions have killed American and Iraqi civilan lives! In fact, he has murdered TEN TIMES AS MANY PEOPLE as the supposed Arabs did at the World Trade Towers!! Impeach this man now! |
