If you put the hole on the side, which is where the hole goes, how can you keep rain from running down the gourd and into the hole? |

Birds really don't worry much about the rain. When they build a nest in a gourd, they bring in all kinds of nesting material which cushions the eggs and subsequent babies from contact with the bottom of the gourd. |
