FROM MAURICE & LYNN PATRY REGARDING Upper Sheriff Farm Hammingden Lane Highbrook We would like to use this forum to clear up some misunderstandings and to correct some misinterpretations arising from our recent “flyer” delivered to the houses in Highbrook. We have owned the former farmyard since 1991, and we have lived in West Hoathly for over twenty years. We were given to understand that industrial units were the preferred option for the site by the planning department at Mid-Sussex District Council. In due course we obtained their consent. We have always wanted to live in a house at Upper Sheriff Farm. We had been told by the Planning Department that they would not give support a Planning Application for a house. So we were left with two options – either do nothing with the site, or build two industrial units to replace the former stables that had been let out as workshops etc. Shortly after obtaining consent for two industrial units it became clear that a number of local residents objected most strongly. It was put to us that with sufficient local support an application for planning consent for a single house might have a chance of success. So that is where we are. At the risk of repeating what you already know, the proposed house is smaller and lower than the industrial buildings, and generally less intrusive. Our intention in distributing our “flyer” was to make all the neighbours aware of the position and to invite their support for the current proposal. We are sorry if any other meaning or intent was given. To those of you who supported our original application we remain grateful. But to all of you, whether you feel strongly or not, if you would prefer to see a house on the site, then with your support we might just succeed. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail at maurice@hexagonfinance.co.uk |

Thanks for clearing this up. We were certainly put out by the blackmailing tone of the letter. It just goes to show how things can be misinterpreted. I will now send in my letter of support. Good luck |

Hi Maurice I am surprised that some people found your ‘Flyer’ objectionable, I thought it was quite refreshing to be informed for a change. I did find the ‘delete as appropriate’ a bit tricky at first, but soon got to grips with it. I of course would be happier with a house, (as I will be looking at it), than the industrial units. I will also prefer the lane free of heavy lorries and the damage and pollution that goes with them. Good Luck. http://www.ciderhousesussex.com B & B |

I am Chairman of West Hoathly Parish Council's Planning Committee. The committee will be meeting on Monday 4th December at 8pm to discuss the Upper Sheriff Farm planning application and I understand that there has been plenty of discussion in Highbrook about this application. The WHPC Planning Committee always appreciates comments on planning applications, whether in support or against, as it helps us to respond to Mid Sussex in a way which most accurately represents the opinions of parishioners. We do not automatically receive comments which have been sent directly to Mid Sussex. If you do have any comments for us, please let Sue Chamberlain have them by Monday lunchtime. She will be in the Parish Office on Monday morning or her phone number is 01342 811301. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting on Monday evening. |
