Hello all,I'm going to be going coyote hunting for the first time this weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. My question is this. Which caliber should I use? Should I take my Savage 22 LR with 40 grain Velocitors or my Savage .17 HMR with 20 grain CCI Game Points? I understand that neither caliber is recommended for coyotes, but I will be hunting on Dept lands (Wildlife Management Area) and I don't want to get questioned going in there with my 7MM Rem Mag. It is all hardwoods, some thick, and I will not be shooting over 100 yards. I am confident enough in my shooting skills to make a good shot. Which caliber would be better? Thanks Brad

Well, a 22 rimfire is not even marginal. You might kill a coyote, but he will probably run off and you will never find him. That leaves the 17HRM, which in good hands has enough energy to actually drop a coyote, at short range.Good luck, LB
