I have had mixed results in none smoking therapy probably due to some individuals no realy wanting to stop completely although they claimed the did. I have seen TV programmes with chocolate eaters being hypnotised and told in future chocolate will taste of *** whatever they hate and it seems to have worked even after several months later. Has anyone any experience or views on using this method to stop smoking or any other addiction.

I Recently treated a case for non-smoking and as part of the therapy, I gave the suggestion that the taste of the cigarettes would be very unpleasant. I did not go so far as to give a suggestion of WHAT they would taste like. You can go so far as to suggest that every time they DO attempt to smoke a cigarette the taste becomes more and more unpleasant to the point of being unbearable. Remember though, if you take something away you must ALWAYS fill it with something positive. I suggested they take a deep refreshing breath to first, remove the unpleasant taste from their mouth and fill it with their favorite taste (ask them before hand what they LOVE to eat) and second that the breath in gives them the same satisfaction they believe they got when they smoked. You can then point out the benefits of breathing in air as opposed to smoke. (white teeth, fresh breath, confidence, a nicer smile, more friends who enjoy being around them now, more money to buy what they want, (find out what they want before hand as well) better health, longer life (assuming they want to live longer) and the list goes on and on.ON a side note, I have also suggested that the SIGHT of a cigarette will become a deterrent. One client commented how her cigs took on a very strange and unpleasant "GLOW" She evidently created what to her was considered unpleasant.Hope this helpsDavid Bellis
