You know that act that James Brown does where he collapses on the stage and the Flames put a cape around him and lead him off the stage? (Wash, rinse, repeat). I saw the Professor at Antlers in Lafayette when I was in college at USL around 1975. And he was very sick. He couldn't finish songs and had to be helped off the stage. But he kept coming back and trying again. Reminded me of James Brown, but it was for real. I saw Professor Longhair many times, but this one incident I remember the most. Not because it was his best performance, just most memorable for me. |

I really would have liked to have met him.the music says a lot about the man. I believe that giving it all you got is something that will overshadow even a luke warm performance. James Brown faked it. Fess did it on the real! |
