My husband Gary's gg-grandparents Patrick (30), Ellen (Rogers) (24) and family (son Michael John) travelled to Port Philip, Australia from Co. Clare, Ireland arriving on 26 June 1850 on the Bussorah Merchant (Reel No 2145). McNAMARA Patrick, Ellen and family Ship: Bussorah Merchant Reel No. 2145 Item: 4/4817, p.131He came from the townland of Cloonagro (also known as Clongurrah), Parish of Feakle, Union Tulla, Co. Clare.Does anyone have information about how to find more information to trace the family further in Ireland? |

Robyn, I would suggest buying or obtaining any of their Australian death certificates as they can provide (if you are really lucky) names of parents, spouses and surviving children as well as birthplaces etc. The info found on a good death certificate can really flesh things out for you. Some can be searched for and ordered online. Just look for the births, deaths and marriages registries or services in the particular Australian state. Good luck! |

Hi Janelle, just got around to replying - sorry. My additional info is: Patricks brother John McNamara (27) and wife Margaret (Welsh) (26) and family- Patrick (3) and John (1) travelled on the same ship. Their parents were Patrick and Ellen (Quinlan) McNamara. However in the 1850 Griffiths there are no McNamaras in Cloonnagro yet there are 3 of the Rogers family - Bartholomew, Thady and John. Are there any other records I can try to search other than all those on Clare Library. I'm trying to match up the Macs, We(a)lsh, Rogers and Quinlan families but they seem to have vanished. BTW Patrick's Will states he came from 'Irlen' and his headstone says 'Native of County Clare Ireland'. Also, these Macs settled in and around Queanbeyan very successfully. |
