Basically, the PC version of the game comes in archives or containers, the .DAT files. These contain all the resource files of the game (sounds, music, models, textures, etc). These archives can be extracted using the tool found at Extractor.Ru.

Once extracted you will end up with various files. Some useful ones will be...

BGM - Generally background music files.

DO2 - Level information files. Contain all the data for the various level pieces (from one door to another, in the game).

PLD - The container files for the model and texture data for the playable characters or PC.

PLW - The container files for model and texture data for Weapons.

TIM - The play station textures files.

VB - The sound effect files i.e small sound pieces the game combines to create sound sequences.

EMD - The container files for the model and texture data for non playable character or NPC.

JPG - The image files used as backgrounds in the game.

WAV - Generally PC and NPC sound files.

Apart from these the rest are miscellaneous content files, containing one thing or the other i.e effects, explosions, events, sequences, etc.
