I was thinking about years of the bygone eras of the franchise. Going back to the inaugural year for the fledgling team in 1998. The first incarnation of the team was the "Bees" reluctantly, sponsored by the Black Beetle bar. The team was fresh off a two year stint wiping the sand out of pussies on the diamonds at Humboldt Park. The telling first practice game with the Yankees of all teams. We were destroyed. But we weren't keeping score!
Giants v.s. Beetles 1998
Opening day against the.... (Giants/Reds/A's. We won in stunning fasion. Carlos Patino leaped from the dugout with a glorius victory jig. The highlight I recall the mostwas when Chad troutman was picked off at 2nd by a bush league trick. The umpire said safe, but Chad couldn't hear. He made the mistake of asking the second baseman what the ump said. The second baseman for the Giant's said he was out. Chad turning to the ump to complain say's "what" "you gotta be kidding me blue". Then the bum at 2nd tags Chad as he comes off the base. "The runners out"!
Norm had about 7 stolen bases in that game.
Al Cassielo had the go ahead RBI in that game. Mike Sach pitched a complete game with the victory.

There are so many great times I have had, that you forget the bad. The incredibly different types of people that we have had and the different types of arguments, but having Chad on the team has made it so much fun. I don't think anyone can name a favorite story of the Red Sox and not have it involve Chad. But in retrospect you people have made the last seven summers a great time for me and a chance to release some of the pressure of day to day life. Thanks to all of you, Jim

I remember that game vividly. We wore Bees t-shirts which Norm silk-screened the night before because our uniforms hadn't arrived. Indeed I did a victory jig after the final out and our first victory. Those were great times and we did have great people: Norm, Chad, Doug, Sostak, Sach, Dailey, Manzer, Dunham, Kevin Frank, Raulston (Purina), the Lip, Dyber, Casiello, and I know I am forgetting others. You all were the coolest teamates ever and I miss that shit.
I will be in Chitown on July 13. I will make it out to your game against the Braves on the 18th.
