"No one can really stop you. I mean, who's gonna stop you?" --Sarah Jacobson Please save the date of February 15th, 2009, for "Ladies and Gentleman, the Fabulous Sarah Jacobson," an evening for remembering Sarah, celebrating young women filmmakers, and benefitting the Sarah Jacobson Film Grant. The event will be held at Glasslands in Brooklyn. We'll be screening clips from previous grant winners along with some of Sarah's short pieces, taking a break for snacks and drinks, then showing "Mary Jane's Not A Virgin Anymore" in its entirety. The show starts at 8 pm. Glasslands is a casual DIY space where you can relax and watch the program or chat with friends. If you can't make it (or even if you can!) we are making a short piece with contributions from those who knew Sarah sharing memories or thoughts. If you'd like to send in a piece (around 3 minutes long), please contact Mikki Halpin, mikki[AT]stim[DOT]com ASAP. These dont have to be elaborate--just you sitting in front of your webcam is fine. Allison Anders will also be showing this piece at a film festival in Los Angeles in the spring. Sam Green, Barbara Hammer, Michelle Handelman, and others have already contributed but we know there are so many others out there who we haven't yet reached, so please do get in touch if you'd like to contribute. The vibe is very low-key--just look into your webcam, phonecam, vidcam, and share a funny story about Sarah, or how you felt when you saw her work, or what makes you think of her now. We hope to see everyone on the 15th! We'll also be announcing the 2010 call for entries for the Sarah Jacobson Film Grant.
