Hello. This is the second time we have tried to post
this message so please excuse us if it appears
twice. We are a London family planning to relocate
to a village in the Dorchester area. Unfortunately,
we don't know anybody living in the area so we are
having a bit of trouble trying to establish which
villages are the most suitable for families with
young children. Sydling seems like an idyllic place
but so fare we haven't been able to find a suitable
family house. Could anyone tells us how the village
compares with others in the area such as Cerne
Abbas and Piddlehinton. All offers of advice
gratefully accepted.

I haven't lived in Sydling for a few years but still visit often. I have lived in Cerne Abbas too so can offer a comparison. Sydling would be my favourite by far. There are lots of families and the children are often out playing together in the good old fashion way (football on the green or dashing round on their bikes). There is a pre-school and toddler group and always loads of social ocassions (for all ages) to meet people.
Cerne Abbas has an older population although there seems to be growing number of families now days. It also has it's own first school. It can get quite busy during the summer with holiday makers though, which I think changes the villagey atmosphere. There is lots for chidren to do i.e. youth clubs/cricket and football clubs, but I wouldn't feel so happy about them out on their bikes and generally playing in Cerne as i would in Sydling.
I also think that Sydling is far more inclusive than Cerne Abbas is. Obviously it's only my opinion!
