Just wondering if anyone has read the book or is planning to go see The DaVinci Code...

I read the book, not planning on seeing the movie. I'm not at all sure what all the fuss is about - I read it as a fictional murder-mystery book. Thought well written although I didn't care for the french and some references that eluded me.

That's what I thought; it's fiction -- I can't believe all the fuss and boycotting, etc.! I don't know if I'll see it or not, but I liked seeing some of the previews on TV this week because I recognized things from the book. It's neat to see some of the locations.

The USA Today review said that they watered down the book. They concentrate more on the spiritual side then the academic, (It is said to be laughable when the hero states "Quick, get me to a library)The fuss is counterproductive to the point that is suggested that Jesus could have been married to Mary Magdalene. I think it is fair to examine thee ways in which the church has at times tried to corrupt the true message of the Gospel and those that have decided that it is their job to purify the message. But most humorous is the idea that the curch could keep a secret for 2000 years. Most times we can't keep a secret for a day.

My family went with me to see the movie, I read the book, but the rest of my family didn't. I was disappointed in the movie in the fact that it seemed to fly through the plot and not get into the details like the book did. When the movie was over, I asked the rest of my family what they thought of the movie. They all thought it was a good movie, similar to a John Grishom novel that was turned into a movie. I asked if it questioned their faith in any way, that said not really since they new it was fiction. The movie went through some of the controversial ideas so quickly, it didn't get in depth at all like the book did. I really think that some people are trying to blow this way out of preportion. When I read the book, I had some questions that I felt I needed to discuss with Pastor. After having that oppurtunity, I felt that this book actually helped me strengthen my personal faith, by causing me to dig deeper into my beliefs and what I had been taught throughout my life.
