Thank you for writing to us. Its always so horrible to hear things like this, especially given that there is a world wide amphibian crisis and that amphibian numbers are dropping at alarming rates. This is due in part to human building and pollution, but to a fungus, as well. I just heard not long ago about somebody wanting to poison a pond because they didn't like the sound of frogs mating! Its sick. If only humans were intelligent enough to realize their own short sightedness and were it will lead them someday. In areas where you have low populations of frogs and toads, you have higher concentrations of mosquitos and spiders and other insects that can hurt man. Disease carrying mosquitos are on the rise as frog populations decline and that is a BAD combination of events. For your spadefoot friends down there, I would collect them and release them someplace not too far but in a natural setting. A park might be ok, but the more rural and natural the better. You might want to try to educate them on the amphibian crisis. Although a lot of people are too mean to care. They also don't care that it is a crime to destroy wildlife and if caught, they could be dealt with legally. I wish you luck in this rescue and I wish those poor spadefoots a long life in a natural setting.
