Hi everyone,I have what I believe to be a male and a female American Toad. They are so sweet. They occasionally chirp and vibrate and do cute things and they really like it when I rub them between the eyes and on each side. They actually lean to whatever side I'm rubbing LOL. The reason I have them is because my sister let her daughter capture them when they were smaller and they had them for about a year. When they got tired of taking care of them they said they were going to let them go, but I took them because we have herons and egrets (crane-type birds) that I've actually witnessed eating toads and I thought it was cruel to release a pet to be eaten. However, I take care of my elderly mother full-time and it's just a bit too much for me. Is there anyone out there who would like to take them, and give them lots of love and good care? I'd be willing to meet someone half-way if the drive is a little too far. Thanks for your time.Shelly

I can ask on my Yahoo group. That group is way more active. We live in NY, so we're way too far. But my Yahoo group has members from all over the country. You can either have me ask or join the group yourself at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/toadily_toads_talkSome say after a year of living in captivity, toads shouldn't be released outside, even in their native area. I don't think they lose their instinct, but I do think they need to be rereleased away from an obvious harmful area. If you can find a new care giver, you're better off. Let's see what we can do.

Oh if you could ask I would very much appreciate that. I'm glad to hear my instinct about not releasing them in my area (& maybe not at all) was correct. Please feel free to give anyone you wish my email below to contact me directly. Also, I've read some things here on this website and I am now certain that what I have are a male and female American toad, and the female is egg laden. Is there anything I need to do for her? Or will she handle things herself? I'm so grateful for your help as I actually love these little guys a lot and want the best for them. Thanks again.LAHLAHPO@JUNO.COM

Just be sure she has access to an under tank heating pad. She might need the additional warmth. Muffin is my oldest female and spends half the time egg laden. She likes being near the warmer spot. By the way, how far are you from Loyal Wisconsin? One of my junior members (who wants to be a herp doctor some day), is interested in your toads.

I'm afraid I'm about 9 hours from Loyal, Wisconsin. What a shame. An aspiring herp doctor sounds ideal. For future reference, the city I'm in is Taylor, MI 48180. If an interested person goes to msn.com's maps and directions, (I included a link) they can type in the city and state in the 'start' and 'end' spots to find approximate miles and drive time. Even though it asks for an address you don't have to type it in. Or, I'd be happy to map out miles & drive time for anyone who's interested. Thanks again.

Too bad I live in Texas, or I would take the toads off your hands. It might be possible to mail them to somebody first-class, all you would have to do is put some dirt in a cardboard box, a few bugs, and then do it that way. They can go without water for a while. Just hold onto them, I might be interested later.
