Chukma My Native American Brothers and Sisters and Friends of Native Americans:<><>As those of you who were at the joint meeting know, the Chickasaw Community Council of Central Texas is going to offer drum making classes in small groups of about four people at a time. Any one from about 8 years and older can take the classes. But anyone less than 16 years of age needs to have an adult with them to help when needed. Our first class will be held in two sessions on the weekend of May 24th-25th at Charles Holland's home in Hutto. The class on the 24th will be from 1PM until about 4:30pm or earlier for you fast learners. This will be when you learn how to prepare everything. The second class will be held on the 25th at 3:00 pm and will only last for about an hour or so. This is to allow for the hides used for the heads to soak over night before the hides are stretched over the frames. I have attached a form that Charles has prepared to give you the range of options that you have in making a drum. It is necessary that Charles have one form for each student so that he can order the materials needed for their drums in advance of the class. If you are interested in attending one of his classes, print out the attached form and after completing it, send it to Charles and indicate whether you want to attend the first class of a later class. If you are interested in a later class, you do not need to send the money for material until such time as the class has been scheduled. Once the first class is full, Charles will contact any others (whether they wanted in the first class or indicated that they would prefer a later class) to set up later classes.<><>If you want to build a drum, but find that the two day schedule is something that you just can not do, please contact me and let me know. While the two day schedule is the preferred way to build a drum, it may be possible to have a very long one day class with a long mid-day break if there is enough interest in doing such a one-day class.<><>Click below to get form.<><>http://www.austinpowwow.org/documents/DrumOrderingForm.doc <><>

I am very much interested in the drum making class; however, I work on weekends. If there is the possibility of weekday or evening class, please let me know. My email address is in my profile. Thank you so very much!

Chukma My Native American Brothers and Sisters and Friends of the Native Americans:-- Well our monthly Chickasaw meeting is tomorrow and since it will be held at the Mexican American Cultural Center, we will get an extra plus because the Austin Cinco de Mayo celebration will also be going on at the center so come enjoy both events - a real two for one tank of gas deal. So come and enjoy our time together and enjoy the opportunity to enjoy the music, food and culture of our Spanish Speaking American Indian Brothers and Sisters, We will be starting at 2PM and the Cinco de Mayo activities starts at noon and will be lasting until 10PM. So do not be surprised if you have to unload things and then hurt for a parking space somewhere in the area.--We will be talking about our Chickasaw Culture and saving your family's history.--This will be a snack/finger food type of meeting. This is the only time we have not been meeting on the second Sunday, There has been a request that we meet a little later on Sundays, so come prepared to give us your opinion on meeting later. Also, Charles and Debbie Holland are suppose to be back from their trip to CA and so if you are interested in making a drum, you can talk to Charles at the meeting.--Several of my friends tell me that I made the instructions hard for the folks coming in on I-35 from the South. They tell me that I should have said that you want to take the Holly Street exit and come down the service road to Holly Street and turn left and on the other or west side of the Interstate, the road becomes River St and you just drive straight to the MACC parking area.
