Dear Friends, In honour of Black History Month, we would be delighted if you could join us in attending the Montréal premiere of the feature length version of the Rotating Planet documentary I Want to be Happy at Les Rendez Vous du Cinéma Québécois on February 21st at 7:00 pm. I Want to be Happy tells the life story of Jackie Washington, an astounding 86-year-old jazz singer, guitarist, storyteller and personality who has a musical repertoire of nearly 1300 songs and whose legendary lifetime spans close to a century of musical and black history. From his childhood beginnings singing in a touring quartet with his brothers, Jackie’s life story winds its way through a fascinating tale of hardship, love and triumph. The film includes rare archives, beautiful live performances of great jazz standards, emotional interviews and a touring road trip across Canada. The film will be playing at the Grande Bibliothèque at 475 boul. de Maisonneuve E. near metro Berri-UQAM.
